Tank next, needs all new mounts, these spanners are cheap and make life so much easier.

Grabs the sides of the mounts like so.

Installed.

Slide the tank back in and install the screws. If your chain catcher is missing or broken now is the time to replace it.

New clutch cover, old one was metal flag and all of the guts were missing.

The early top covers are shorter and you have to drill a hole in them for the plug wire to clear.

Kinda like this.

All back together, ugly but she is a sweet runner.

Dumb question. I have one of those. Can those seals be swapped extremely easy. No case splitting? I half asses read through mine is ugly as sin but a refresh is due

Absolutely, the oil pump is common to all saws on this chassis and the PTO side seal presses into it, not the case.

On the older two piece ignition saws the flywheel side seal is retained by a holder that bolts to the case.

Both are easily removable, no splitting required.

The newer single piece ignition saws have the same oil pump, but the flywheel side seal presses into the case. It can be pulled out and a new one driven in though, no splitting required.

It is important to note that the oil pump and the seal holder both use an o ring to seal to the case. It really should be replaced along with the seals.

All good Joe. You've compiled a ton of great info in this thread. It's gonna be an awesome resource for guys playing with these saws. Nice work brother:beer-toast1:

Thanks brother Mike, just trying to keep up with you and Al, both of your build threads are top notch.

Thanks Joe.

I really should do some more build threads. I always forget to get enough pictures. I've got a couple saws here that I think will get build threads.

Hey Joe, nice thread. Noticed you used a 272 bellows on the hole by the throttle arm. Won't it be having a tough time getting air without a hole in the top cover like a 272? Just curious, as the 266 did not have that feature that I could tell, and seemed to be the place for incoming air into the box, or did I miss a thing?

The 266 used the bellows, I believe that they draw air from the flywheel area.
