Good to know. Tomorrow I'm headed to one of my best resources and if I get lucky he will have everything I need, I'll have to do some begging and pleading but it should be worth it.

Here's my 1989 300th anniversary 268XP. Waiting its turn in line to be cleaned up and rebuilt. 382nd saw built in the 8th week of 1989. Much earlier in the year than your 266XP. That means that Husqvarna was assembling 266XP's long after they'd started assembling 268XP's. The 268XP has the newer cases with the one piece ignition as well as the larger carb, intake track, and top cover. They must have been using up a substantial supply of 266XP parts (enough to keep making the earlier design several months after 268XP production had started). Very cool.

You can see the 300th anniversary decal placement in relation to the top cover screw. I'm really looking forward to seeing pics of your 266XP after you're done with it. Very cool. Here's my 266XP. 1987 production IIRC. Very strong running saw.

Do you happen to know what year Husqvarna switched from the metal chainbrake handle to the plastic one like on mine? The reason I ask is I can get my hands on a NOS clutch cover with the metal handle.

From what I've heard they used a lot of the Eliminator's after Mt. Saint Hellen blew, the valcanic ash was so fine that it destroyed the saws, so in your quest for one, a guy might look in around that area.
Thanks Howard I didn't know that . That was good Information .

I have seen 1989 Husky saws and IPLs with plastic and metal brake levers. Must have been a transition time for them. My 268XP came to me with what I believe was a swapped on metal lever cover. My 1987 266XP came to me with what had to be a swapped on plastic lever cover. I swapped the plastic lever cover to the 268 and put the metal lever cover on my 266.

Yes.

I cleaned it up a wee bit before I pull it apart to replace the AV buffers.

Here's one thing I find odd in these '89 models.....they have a plastic tank assembly, but metal side covers.

Your 300th 61 certainly cleaned up well. The metal clutch cover (with the metal brake lever) isn't unusual on that 1989 saw. Is your FW cover mag? Looks to be plastic in the pic. A very nice example. Worth the (LONG) wait methinks.

I have 266XP and 268/272XP full wraps. They're different, but will fit on all the saws of the series (with the correct spacer block). That one looks to be a 268/272XP full wrap, and is missing the orange plastic spacer block.

One end of the handlebar attaches to the block with screws and nylock nuts. The other end has screws that pass through it and the block, and then thread into the fuel tank (where the shorter 1/2 wrap screws went).

This here is the 266XP setup. Uses a different spacer (aluminum, and not offset like the 268/272 block). Look at the bottoms of the full wrap handlebars to see the difference.

I also have a Jonsered 630/670 full wrap that has been modified to work on the Husky saws. It's similar to the 266 handlebar. Bottom ends are not offset, and it uses the same spacer block as the 266 handlebar. This handlebar is on my 272XP. The side bracket that attaches to the right side of the tank is longer on the Jonsered handlebar, and must be shortened and redrilled to work on the Husky saws.

Thank you for all the information. The guy I sold the air filter kit to has the spacer I need. The full wrap on the saw appears to be off a Dolmar (modified). As you can see in this picture I have options. The guy I got the top covers and full wrap from has a NOS clutch cover with the metal handel, I have it set aside at his place, another option. Thanks for all the help.
