Huskyboy meets the 572xp

Is there an 'official' saw weigh thread on this site. Didn't get anything under Google back to this site.

I have seen a lot of dry weights of the 562 and 462 but everything I have seen to gauge a bare bones 572 weight was a heated version with an estimated couple of oz of oil on board or a 565 without the handbrake.. among other differences like no stuffers? That's all kinda anti climactic.

I am calling Unprofessional workmanship.

Someone on facebook posted this, both full of fluids with a 20”. The 372 is a xtorq.

I know I have seen it, but don't ask me where, but there have been several 572 threads.

IIRC it was very close to the advertised weight, for both the 462 and 572, so about 1.5 lbs difference.

Anyone know what a 390xp weight is full of fuel and oil compared to a 572? Just curious. I got to be honest this thing is very close to our stock 390xp in both hp and torque. Perhaps almost equal. Ported vs ported would be a different story... but just talking stock vs stock here.

Closest I have is a 385.

Here's a 372 just to be safe. I think its small dawgs and clutch cover:

Makes sense to me, 390 definitely felt heavier to me. Perhaps with long bars it’s chassis is more durable/balances better than the 572... stronger av and whatnot. But running the bars we run I don’t think I’d pick a stock 390 over the stock 572, and not to mention the 390 eats fuel compared to the 572. Gonna some $ over time.

That 462 has inner and outer dogs, and not the ones that came on it.

I found this, I put it on the postal scale (stock) when I first got it. Dry powerhead 13.25 lbs.

I often tell folks the story about how Don(@sawfun) and I met one day to test many of his saws and noticed his 7900 weighed about the same as his 044 and my 372. But I don't often mention that about at the same time I brought over my PNW 385xp which I was using at the time felling in Oregon, and met up with him on a red Alder job I was on in Yamhill, Oregon. It was much less strong than his 066 and felt like it weighed much more. We were confused, and I was unimpressed.
BTW, still don't have an early 066 in the gallery. So if anyone's got one, hit me up.

Wrap handle, big dogs and wide cover is about .7 LB on a 372oe (from just over 14 to 14.75 and they shaved 30g off for the standard comparison cover. At best we round to .8 lb + 14.2 = 15lb

It looks closer to 12 ounces to me. Sounds like a decent ball park for adding two large dawgs, a wrap, and a larger clutch cover.
On some Stihls it adds more than a pound.

What’s a 462 weigh with dual larger dogs, roller catcher and wide discharge cover? That’s what I would do to one before even using it.

I just added the outer dog and the 20" light bar, which is how I like it. I likely do more limbing and less bucking than you, so our needs are different.

This saw pulls so well I felt it needed the outer dog, but other than that I wanted to keep it as light as possible … keeping with this saw's attributes.

I noticed that in the tough White Oak cant the stock 572 and 462 were very close. I figure my muffle mod gives me a bit extra … makes for a nice power/weight package, and Mark said my saw felt more "responsive" than stock, so my minor muffler mod did not detract from the crisp throttle response

Was it a stock 385? I don't think a stock 385 can put the hurt to a stock 066, but ported, it's much more even.

To me, outer dogs are only necessary for a felling saw. Not necessary for bucking.

I like having dual dawgs all the time - a lot of the time when you're bucking commercial wood, you'll need to trim the ends of logs and sometimes
just having the inside dawg isn't good for that.

I prefer them on anything 70 cc and up, don't need them on my 261, it is primarily for limbing and light bucking.
