See what happens when you soak those things in muriatic acid for a few minutes.Bearings
Nothing new or exciting I know but not in great shape.
The overheating that started cooking the piston likely scorched it.Whats the opinion on the burn in the transfers?
yep... I agree, not much point in buying oem for the 394/395's ... hyway is fine. add an extra 288xp exhaust port and you have a harley
Hey Brewz this is a bit off topic but what do you know about Archer brand chain??? I see it's made in Australia. Is it popular over there?
Good to know. I saw a roll on eBay and it says Australia on the box. Should've known it was a marketing ploy.Archer chain is NOT made in Australia, made in China (says so in their catalogue). Just sold as being made by an Australian company. All I know is it's cheap and I have a 25' roll of .325 to experiment with doing milling. It does look and feel far better than other Chinese chain I've seen. Can't answer on how long it holds it's edge etc yet though.
The next issue which has me worried.
The carb!
Owner said the original carb cused massive issues and would not work properly even after 2 rebuild kits. It was a Walbro WJ-39
He got an after market carb and had to fit the Walbro top, choke and throttle by the looks.
The choke doesnt work right and wont open to 90* without being pushed hard.
I flicks back to about 80% open when released.

I have had a search on Ebay for a WJ-39 but no luck.
Anyone got a good carb or know where I can get one?

Epa carb - WJ-70
Drone carb that also works - WJ-71
Sounds like the choke shaft is bent and or the spring isn't tensioned correctly.

That does suck. I just got this one Tuesday.Well that sucks balls!
I get the regular Friday specials email from HL Supply and they have the hyway 394/395 muffler discounted to $19
All too late for the couple of us that sparked the interest :-(
