Nachi's are what I use. Watch out for counterfeits though - I got some stamped Nachi Taiwan on the bearings but did not come in Nachi boxes so I was suspicious. I called Nachi USA and they said they did not have a Taiwan plant. The vendor took them back and sent me the ones in the sealed boxes.

Saw is in bits
Just about to watch the video on splitting the case to make sure I have all the screws and pins and stuff before I go opening it up.

I dont want to break it.

Cylinder doesn't look too bad and there is plenty of oil in the motor. I think it was caused by carbon build up at the exhaust port because the rest of the piston looks pristine.

Let me know if your bearing prices are outrageous. I just picked up a bunch of nachi 6202's dirt cheap. If it's feasible I will ship you couple.

Are the bearings just standard 6202's?
If they are I can get good quality bearings cheap from the local bearing supply place

That looks like a bit of aluminium transfer to me...should come out with Randys way (look under the Tec sectioning the forum).

You have more sanding left to do before you give it a go.
I also do as Simon using Randy's methode, but I gone start hand sanding around ports.

I made a tool like @Mastermind showed in his video's, stuck it in the die grinder and the cylinder is now free of transfer and as smooth as a baby's bum!

Cylinder is good to go!

I will get some new bearings early next week when the shops are open again.

I always use C3 bearings, the extra clearance makes em spin easier :)

Once again...... thanks so much for all the help folks.

The saw is in fantastic condition under all the crud.
No damage or corrosion, no broken parts, crank seals are still soft (will replace them anyway) clutch is good, chain sprocket is an Oregon and is good, just needs a new rim.

I recon it will take 10 - 15% of the dealer quoted price in parts to fix it.

Right...... I'm off to shop for parts :)

Carb is a HD 6

I am getting everything from HS Supply to support the forum sponsor, but that dont list a carb kit for a walbro carb for the 371.

Will the HD Walbro kits for Stihl 039 / 044 etc fit?

He bought the saw new, its a one owner saw.

I am fairly confident the issues were caused by exhaust port carbon buildup.
I am going to have a chat with him about what fuel and oil he uses.

Intake side of the piston:
