Did you get that from the Amish?
They will absolutely wreck a saw
No, I’m not judgmental at all, thinking crack head possibly. I wish I had saved a pic of the band strap that incorporated the 2 holes in the wrap, and 2 holes in the case as a way to fix a broke av and an av missing a bolt.

I'm kinda impressed. Send it down if you want it welded up. Without parts in front of me, I assume the cover is 'Pacific to the metal flag?

I don’t think so, a 266 non W saw cover/flag worked just fine, save the air leak the saw has…I have one in much better shape with very minor rot that I’ll probably tig up, and send to someone to get powder coated. I’ve been stalking @srcarr52 tube u vids on magnesium welding. This cover might be a good practice piece, I really appreciate the offer though.

That said, I’ll take any tips you have to offer in mag welding. I don’t contribute much to this site on the tech side, but Tig I can, do, and will, especially if it saves an obscure piece. I finally have a 2 series wrap to copy, more to come…

Lots of argon flow... lots!

I did a segment on welding mag that ended up on Duke's channel.

Hey fellas! I do have some parts for that model but my last boot went to @Stevetheboatguy . Don't know if the slacker used it yet or not:taptap:

I have it stashed with @farminkarman and the 257 that's getting the 262 treatment.

Big thank you again 👍👍

I'm blushing that I got your last one. Kinda almost feel bad 😂😂

I picked up this old girl on Friday. Did the full wraps come with the metal brake flag? View attachment 369959View attachment 369960

Come with, no. However there was a metal brake flag just for the wrap handle that was set more forward than the original, as the wrap comes straight across vs the angled standard handle to give more room for the hand.

So an 89 would have the newer or 272 chain brake? Trying to make it “correct”.

Unfortunately some of that NLA stuff is hard to track down in the new ipl's to tell any more as it's been rubbed out.
I will try and go through some of my files tomorrow and see if I can find anything for you.

Early 1989 saws would have the metal chain brake. Later 1989 saws came with the plastic brake flag. I have no idea what month the transition took place.

Thanks CJ, I have 2 self tapping holes to repair on the PTO side case, which means probably new powder coat. Using a non metal flag will make it easier to get everything the same color.

Here's a service bulletin on the chain break change in 1989 along with going from black to grey on the handle, trigger, caps etc., etc.. I don't know if there's a code or some such thing to narrow down the date or not?
