Correct. About 6 miles north of Harrison.

Start time is whenever volunteers arrive. Landowner will have coffee ready at sunrise or thereabouts.

Right now, I have my 3 plus 6-7 helpers. Will know as time gets closer if all of them will be there for sure.

Are we splitting the wood at the site of the tree, or are we bringing the wood to the stack site and splitting it there?

Evening y'all. Sorry I've been absent - busy around here. Okay, I've talked to the family and we have two sites for the Charity Cut on the 16th. The first one has 8 or 10 3 foot diameter oaks that were blown down by a tornado three years ago. They seem to still be solid for the most part and should make quite a bit of wood.

The trick is, it's a little brushy to get to them. You have to drive on a bit of a slope and through some trees to get to them, but nothing that scares my old Dodge. A new, pretty truck might get spooked. For those who don't want to risk it there is a second site for the afternoon that all the trees are in a field.

I think the best plan of attack is to cut and split the 8-10 blow-downs and then move to the second site where there will be fried fish, fried chicken, fried venison, and whatever else we can find to batter and stick in hot grease. There will be lots of other fixins plus coffee, tea, etc...

I have a couple of pictures of the folks the wood is for. I'll try to post them in a bit.

If we cut and split where the tree lays, there will be family members who will load and trailer the wood to the couple who need it. We do not need to clear or stack brush or even stack the wood. The family will do all the clean up with a tractor after we're done.

Sounds like you're bringing quite a crew! Thanks!

Can we cut logs and tractor them up the hill a bit? I've got plenty of cable, chains and straps.

Sorry, I should have explained that better. The trees are all up on a flat part of a field. Lots of room to turns several trucks with trailers around and position as needed. Plenty of elbow room. The sloping hill is just the path to get to the flat.

The down side is that restrooms will be rustic. Very rustic, as in, bring your own paper and don't be afraid to venture into the treeline.

I'm not able to upload pictures for some reason. I'll give it another try tomorrow. Anyway, the couple are Bob and Jean Good. I actually rebuilt an old 16" Homelite for her a few years back because the one she usually ran finally quit after umpteen years.

Since the family name is "Good", I was thinking "Wood for Good" Charity Cut. I think my wife is going to make a few t-shirts to mark the occasion. We're working on a design. I'll let you know what we come up with.

Update on food: The couple's grandson will be the cook. He said he had a few pounds of fish on hand that he had caught recently. I said that would feed Matt and Levi, but the rest of us might be hungry as well. He said he was willing to go fishing again for such a noble cause.

Hmmmm.... We initially went up to the site in a Polaris side by side in 2wd but we spun a little. I'll go over there this weekend and check in my truck. Pulling a trailer probably 4wd to get up that hill at the morning site. Afternoon site 2wd no problem.

I need to go up there and cut into a couple of those downed trees to make sure they're still good. They seemed solid when I whacked 'em with a 4 lb sledge but a chainsaw will tell for sure. There is one tree at that site that is still standing. The other site (close to where lunch will be) has 5 or 6 that need to be felled. All 30"+ diameter.

And, a shovel.

Having 'camped' in the boonies for an extended stay I can assure you that hiding the 'evidence' is necessary.[emoji90]

Those are some honkers. If solid, that is a lot of wood.

I got this today, good original condition,
Someone tried to rig a fuel line out of vacuum hose, and had the handle / tank
Off and throne back together to pawn.
Got 35 bucks in it so far

Looks like a good start! If you decide to let go of it let me know. Had a guy looking for one over here.
