OK Kyle, and anyone else who cares to venture an opinion, I believe these pictures should show up. All the shortcuts I tried did not work, but I went through a couple of extra steps on the computer. My friend, a 60 year old skinny woman who farms 11 acres by hand alone, is trying to resurrect a 1959 sicklebar, and has this larger engine attached to it, but she's too little to pull it over. What kind of fix can we come up with to assist in starting this? We had the idea of using a cordless impact on it if she can get the cover off, but I think that would soon round off the bolts after about ten tries. Here are pics:

I'm not sure there's any saving that chain.
Maybe I can take the good section of it and make it a 60 Drive link. LOL

I borrowed a square file from jason and worked on a chain last night. It's def better than they were. I was having trouble with the top plate angle. What am I looking for on the top plate angle?

Anybody heard from Chet ( @Jetmd ) or Steve ( @SteveSS ) lately?
Here I am. Been a busy summer. Just started stacking up some wood for the winter this last weekend. The cooler temps are a god send. The power company dropped three big oak trees over at my Grandma's house this past week that need to be cut up and stacked. That will be a good project for the next couple of weeks. I think I'm at about 2.5 cord right now.

Traded for a roached 024 a couple weeks ago, but haven't had time to tear into it yet. I really wanted to get my 7910 up to the treemonkey during the summer so I could have it back for wood cutting season, but never got around to it. Maybe next summer, or after prime cutting season. Maybe even before the get together in March. Is that still in the plans?

Hope everyone is doing well.

Is that like one of the old belt driven starter/generator combo's?

here is a home made one.

and here is a factory made unit. It has a battery built into it.

I think we could build one to hold a small battery with a socket to fit the flywheel bolt and it would work good. I've started motors with a drill and socket b4 but when it starts it can unscrew the crank bolt. Don't ask how I know. :).

I think the nut would have to be replaced with a grade 8 one, then use only non-impact sockets so the socket takes the wear rather than the nut on the mower. Hate to have to replace a rounded off nut. Seems to me teh easiest fix is a big cordless impact, but that is some dough. I'll mention the ideas to her, we'll see what she thinks. Thanks!

If you used a low speed cordless drill, and add an overriding clutch (like from a PTO shaft) then that may work.
I would think that the hammering of an impact would only server to break things.

The problem I had doing things like this was getting the impact or drill loose once it started bc they didn't have a one way clutch. Then they would break the drill attachment or sling my socket around like a bullet.

March is still in the plans, unless Gramps (Matt) has something come up that would force him to call it off.

Also, we have a Charity Cut in the Alpena, AR area on Sept. 16.

What about a 110v electric starter off of a snow blower. If they use those engines.

Is she up to swapping out the engine with one that has an electric Stater?
