Howdy-do from the Shenandoah Valley. Hope you all are doing well.

I turned 64 last Sunday, and all I wanted for my birthday is a ride on the Virginia Scenic Railway, where they run a steamie through the Alleghenies just west of here. Nancy got us tickets for tomorrow afternoon. Some of them serve dinner, but not this one. I'm looking forward to it. I'll try to get some pictures.

A week from tomorrow, I plan to ride my bicycle 100 miles in one day. I did it in 1973, and I guess we'll see if I still got it in me. This is hill country, so the riding is a little tougher than it was in Kansas... I've been training on county roads, which out here are all paved. I appreciate that for sure

Got a big red oak to climb and piece down at church, that should be fun. Found some aluminum climb spikes for cheap, because those old Buckinghams wear me out anymore. Acting one third my age, as usual. Emerson wants to help me build him a climbing structure and tree house, and I said he has to be willing to actually help me. Having a bit of trouble instilling a work ethic. Any of y'all need a farm hand? He'll be ten in February, and he's already 90 pounds and nearly five feet tall. I might ship him out west to do some farm and pasture work, maybe then he'd see how easy he's got it... He's actually a pretty nice kid, and can shoot his Red Ryder with surprising accuracy.

Nice looking wood though

Thatā€™s really nice wood though. Iā€™d make a kitchen/dining room table out of that.
Yeah I was impressed with how nice it looks.
Really didn't expect any hardware in these logs, they were out in the woods away from any buildings.... you just never know....there was no staining on the end to tip me off to the presence of iron.
I wouldn't mind, but I put a new blade on when I started on that log.
Dunno what I'll do with it, just sticker it and let it dry for now.

Sometimes I just throw chains away..
A really bad chain can take some serious life out of the old grinding wheel.
I use an old wheel to remove most of the cutter. Back to a good one for the finish

Waiting on a quote from Hunter to remove the dead/dying maple on Duncan and the oak 20ā€™ from my front door.

Got a letter from the city to deal with the hazard tree or else. šŸ˜‘

Turns out the curb trees are the responsibility of the adjacent property owner. šŸ’©

Plan is to have them leave wood over 12ā€ so I can play with chainsaws.
