Let’s see if I’m interepreting this right...

A dobro maker will seal up the wood he makes instruments from to maintain that 30% or so moisture content until he’s ready to actually make something out of it without concerns of doing any damage to the wood? It can literally just sit there for years at ~30% moisture and just be in somewhat “suspended animation”?
There's a process of putting wood in pond that stops splitting.

Can't remember how it went

I thought rule of thumb was 1 year per inch of thickness for drying.
For air drying, yes..
But cracking and warping can still occur..

12% is about as low as moisture will get here in the Midwest. The target for furniture makers is more like 8%.
I’m about to do something I shouldn’t with a slab.
Seal that *b-word up completely at about 30% moisture and see what happens....

Picked this up a couple of months ago and got it in the kitchen Saturday. I like old cook stoves and this one is fascinating. I got the cook surface burners cleaned up and operating very nicely. Now to get both ovens working.
:)

Got one oven working now and it didn't even Rocket Launch through the roof and into orbit.
Making progress.

I like dry this time of year..
Save it all up for June/July/August..

If only it worked that way.

Coughing my head off on Wednesday, started running fever that night; went to VA early thursday morning; tested negative for covid, flu, and RSV; chest x-ray supposedly showed pneumonia. Who needs this crap?

The doc also says the covid test is about 80% accurate, so that is not off the table either I suppose.

Didn't you already have it?
There's a ton of "other" crap going around.. Takes about 2 weeks to get over it. Gallons of snot are generated by it..

Yes, I already had Covid, this time last year.

Yes, lots of stuff going around. And, yes, whatever I have generates enough snot to wake me up gagging in my sleep!!!
