Well, I've decided to just rebuild the engibe in the new to me Van. Ford V10 will be a new experience for me. Fortunately I have Ford technical knowledge in the family.
It'll have to get a crankshaft. #1 journal is toast.
Been dealing with O'Reilly to get a reconditioned one and after all said and done it was going to run me about $425. My son did some checking at the parts dept where he works. They've ordered me a brand new crankshaft. $500.
I'm sure most of you are familiar with TTY head bolts. But these Triton engines also use them on the main bearing caps and the connecting rod caps and I can't find them aftermarket. Fortunately Ford has them in stock and not bad on the price either.
I'd say the V10 is a pretty decent engine, too. This one has got 438k miles in it and still ran smooth even with a loose rod.
So now the fun begins.
