Thanks for the info. The post on mine is actually part of the "backplate". The inside radius of the top of the shoes fits snug onto it. Theres one hole for the threaded pin that anchors the parkin brake. It runs through the center of that large post. So far, I'm not seeing any area that can be adjusted except the star adjuster. I'm beginning to think that these Autozone brand shoes are not spec. That inside radius on them that fits snug against the post? I'm thinking of hogging it out a tiny bit to let the shoes close further.
That sounds like the right answer. Estimate how much they are too high & take half off the top of each shoe wood be my guess

Yep, I looked at some other parts stores. Autozone and O'Reillys both use the part number "358". However, on close inspection, the O'Reilly shoe is a bit shorter. I haven't got anything done on it the last couple days but I'll have the Autozone shoes off and the O'Reilly shoes on in the morning. Fingers crossed and thanks to all for the help.

Also, take note on the new shoes, if there is a short shoe and a long shoe the short shoe goes to the front. The factory shoes back then were made of different materials. The short front shoe was "stickier" than the back shoe. The brakes were a self energizing type and when the front shoe made contact with the drum the assembly would rotate a small amount and thus put more pressure on the rear shoe. Hence the reason the rear shoe is longer.
With that being said new replacement shoes are often the same length anymore. :)

Good morning y'all. Rain in Wichita overnight.

I'm a Stihl guy too. Flippy cap hell! Although, 3 of my go-to saws are old 024s. Dug out a 461 Rock Boss powerhead that I got a few years ago. If the engine tests good I'm going to look for a 461 carcass to put it in.

I have no closet large enough for me and my 661/72" alaskan setup lol. Got started w a 1170 14 or more years ago & then bumped up to a 460 and continued with PH's that used same bars- chain

72", that's one helluva bar! I picked up a used 660 several years ago. I'll be making a sawmill out of it someday. I already have a 440 and a 441 for firewood. If the Rock Boss is a runner, I'll be turning it into a chainsaw too.

84 or 96" dual power bars or much more seriously bad ass. But I'll never need one that size

Playing with 200t can get ‘spencive.

Five small items at Jack Horners came to $71. Intake boot is up to $36.30. [emoji2960]

But, China made rubber I can’t trust.

I love mine. I've been thinking about going ahead and buying rebuild parts while they're still available. In roughly 10 years, I've only replaced air filters.

How well does the 661 pull a 72"? That's a ton of bar!

I guess I'm part of the minority, since all I have is Stihl, 1 Echo 355t, and a bunch of Mcculloch's I'm going to sell. I was going to get a Husky 395 at the beginning of the year, but held off due to the madness. I must also be missing something with the flippy caps. I don't mind 'em.

You have to keep us in the loop as to which Macs your gonna sell. I’m sure some of us will def be interested.

Sounds vaguely familiar, I have 4 Stihl, 1 Echo & 1 Dolmar. I looked pretty hard @ Hooskies during the H&L sale this spring & I see its going on again. I am really leaning towards the Echo 7310 but I don’t need another saw.

I don’t seem to have any problems with the flippy caps on my Stihls either.

Fellow dropped off a Stihl 026 for a troubleshoot. Looses power and dies after a short time. Fuel in it had 1/4 tsp of water.

Give him ‘The Dip’, we can see boot and impulse line. Then overhaul the carb, tank vent etc..

Has a flippy cap tank on it.

All of them I have. I started selling off the bars and chains on Ebay and think I may have under priced them for how quick they sold. So apparently McCulloch stuff is still a hot commodity, at least on Ebay. I'll keep y'all in the loop regardless. Hopefully this picture will show up. Only 2 I added after this was 2, Super Pro 60's. None of them have bars anymore. Should be 3 Pro Mac 610's, a Pro Mac 10-10, a Pro Mac 555, and 3 Pro 10-10 automatic's, but 1 of them is supposedly a Pro Mac 10-10 with an automatic cover. Honestly, I don't know enough about all the intricacies of them, to know how accurate that all is. Meaning they could all be hodge podge's, but they all run good. So I never worried much about if all the parts were genuine for each model, if that makes sense.

I started looking at the Husky's when I got a chainsaw mill, since my biggest saw is a couple 660's. I wanted something with a little more umph and will probably get something eventually here. I was also looking at the 661's, non-mtronic, since my dealer is able to get them as of a month or 2 ago. I just need to get rid of some things first. Every 5 years or so, I liquidate whatever isn't being used, so I don't have to put up a 100x100 shop to house it all. Lol! So as of right now, I'm in the getting rid of things stage.

I didn't even know they had an Echo 7310 till I you mentioned it. I've really been out of the loop the past several months. Looks interesting.
