Just vegetable oil.. this one needs to sit a spell, and will be planed then sanded, then oiled.
Good afternoon y'all. Thank you for the input!
Both shoes are tight against that top pin. The big lever is loose. After taking the drum off, I can see that only the upper third of the shoes are making contact. I'm not sure what to make of that. It's really got me stumped.![]()
I did drum brakes for years before I found the pin was adjustable. [emoji2960]
Back in the day the manufacturers would cam grind the shoes. They were thicker in the middle and slightly thinner on the ends and would wear in from the middle outwards. That's the way it used to be. Now? Probably not. Personally I see three options.
1. Check out another set of shoes. Preferably a major brand like Wagner, Raybestos or Bendix and compare.
2. Try a little "custom" fitting of the brake material.
3. Put'em on and run'em. Eventually they'll break in.
Remember, it's drum brakes. Not the Space Shuttle. It's not that hard.

Handles may be required if you have small tender hands?
Delicate hands... yes, this could be the case.
