Reminders of the MI trip...

A member of my squad in Nam, Eugene G. Siterlet(sp ?) was from Detroit. Carried an M79.

His folks sent a case of Stroth beer in a ‘care’ package. [emoji2960]

Also sent a 1911 broke down in three separate packages as a side arm was hard to get out in the bush. The REMF snagged them before they got out to us. Supply always had some excuse. *a-holes!

Eugene’s dad was Detroit PD officer.

I would have preferred a SW 38 snubby.[emoji848]

My dad, a former USMC reservist, sent me his Kabar. I gave it away when I DEROS. A large knife was priceless in the boonies.

Dad also sent a 12” mill bastard file. We had the sharpest machetes and ‘D’ handle shovels in the battalion. [emoji108]

Our platoon had a member of the New York Mets. He was a minor league player called up to fill in on the bench two weeks before he was drafted into the Army.

The Mets continued to carry him on their player roster his entire military service.[emoji106]

To say we were excited about the 1969 World Series was an understatement. [emoji12]

I wish I could remember his name as he is who I gave the Kabar to.

That was voted ‘Consumer Reports’ best tasting beer in America. ( In the 90’s I believe & early 2000’s). I used to by that in 30 packs for $9.99 from Regal Liquor in Shenandoah, IA. I would buy ten 30 packs at a time they never seem to last as long as I thought they should... I would come home & find a $20 bill on my kitchen counter then realize a 30 pack had gone missing, occasionally a couple 30 packs would be gone with two $20’s on my counter. My buddies brother, who was not yet approved by the guberment to drink would swing by & I may or may not have told him to help himself. A grateful youth, it’s a novel concept in today’s society.

I think the cheapest beer that I ever bought was during a college road trip to Lamoni, IA. Grain Belt at $1.00 a six-pack. One taste and you knew why it was $1.00 a six. [emoji13]

My uncle gets cases of bottles from the Original brewery. They shut it down a while back, but have since started back up.
Original recipe...

Worse than "scotch buy" beer? Scotch Buy was a Safeway brand beer.

What we did was start off with decent beer & after a couple didn't matter. Of course I used up my drinking privilege and haven't had a drink since before 2-10-1986, causes more trouble that it fixes 4 me

Falstaff brewing

Have not heard that spoken in a while:D:D:D:D:D

Us ‘south side dutch’ drank either Falstaff or Budweiser.

Send your oldest kid to the corner tavern with a pail and and ten cents. Bring back a quart of draft.

Two taverns on the corner back in the ‘50s. One was the 3.2% open only on Sundays. Both often owned by the same family lived upstairs at one and rented out the upstairs at the other.
