That would be a neat one to play with! If you got an extra one laying around I’ll fab the karts together!

None of those engines laying around & no go- karts laying around either. I’ve never had one. I told Dad I wanted a go kart when I was about 10, I got a 2N Ford-Ferguson with a 3point platform carry-all & a 2 bottom plow, told to I could plow the garden, pick up trash along the roads, sticks & rocks in the fields. He was less than impressed when I cut some donuts in the yard with it.

It's actually a kt17 kohler. Series 1 that's toasted.
Do they fit the old Onan generators?
The Onan used a special crankshaft and mount that prevents people from replacing them easily.
I have a Miller welder with an Onan, and would like to find an engine for it that is not obsolete.

My understanding, on these, is that the kt17 kohler series 1 they came with had problems with the oiling system. Technically it was a pressurized system but it was only about 5psi. The rods were drip lubed from left over oil to the crank shaft. As long as you kept it level There wasn't any real problems with the rods getting enough oil. But anytime you cut on a hill, the rods were starved and they'd get tossed through the block. The series 2 engines ran about 50psi and had an oil filter too. Problem solved.
Deere had a warranty program that used an Onan as the replacement. But they required a special kit to mount them and connect the drive shaft to the flywheel side of the engine. The kohler magnum 18 is a direct drop in. (That's what I used as a replacement engine) The switch has to be wired different because the original engines were battery ignition and the replacements are mag ignition.
Vangaurd v twins are a popular replacement in them, too. There are kits available to install them.

I picked up a 6500 onan generator a couple of weeks ago for $140. They're out there still.

Onan was a biblical character killed by god for ‘pulling out’ in order to avoid offspring.

(I asked Siri.)

Why did they name a company such always puzzled me. [emoji848]

The boys and I went to grab a load of logs today. Had to cut the big one in half to get it out of there with the available equipment. There’s at least another load of nice firewood size logs in there. At some point I’ll go back and drop a bunch of leaners in the pasture, might be a few saw logs in there that should be free of metal.
