Morning midlanders!

Put the new carb on the MS170 and send it back down to the neighbor woman today.[emoji1696]

Clean the contacts in the vet’s headlight rollover switch so he don’t ‘blink’. Why GM sent twenty plus amps thru it without using a heavy duty relay is above my pay grade. [emoji90]

Edit: Buckets move along smartly jumpered to the hot post of the alternator.

I have to remove the driver's side AC duct to see where the circuit breaker may be hung out.

Here we go I need a little advice,

What would you try first?

Why would you try it first??

How would you try it?? Water only? Straight? Whiskey sour?

I'd fix the 365, as it'll likely be worth the most, to you or someone else. The 440 i'd flip or trash, and the homelite, i'd find a buyer for. Now, some of @sawnami 's Homelites, those would find a splendid home in my barn, an in the hedgerows of KS...

I'll keep 365 I don't have a bigger saw.

Just overall meh design. The carbs aren't great, the seals are always suspect, the powerband is generally lacking, etc. Now, all of this is coming from the prospective of having multiple ported topshelf saws, whether, currently, or in their respective day (and still). When Dad bought his 039 Stihl, I thought he'd bought a Porsche, coming off of a McCulloch 35. I thought my Husky 55 was a Ferrari whn I bought it. Then I bought a new 346xp... The rest has been entertaining, but suffice it to say, it depends on your perspective.

The 365 is built on the 372 platform, and a hell of a saw. With a new P&C (and possibly crank stuffers - Matt?) it IS a 372, but the 365 is still a darn fine saw. The 440 is a Lowes 2 year throwaway special. With the wear and tear its already seen, any money now would be good money after bad. You could buy a lightly used Echo 501p for what you'll spend to ensure that the 440 is "right", and have more displacement, and a far better tool to show for it. That 440 is essentially an Orange Poulan (also nothing of the brand that they once were).

I thought about having someone port and hop up the 365,

Who would do it and how much???

I'll check it out first and clean it up

There's plenty of people between Alan, Kevin, Sean and others. I'd give it the Carl Signature "DIP" first, outline a few pages back, and then see where you're at. Unless everything is ruined, it's worth it for a med-large firewood saw, and pretty economical now, with the 5 series saws being out. No matter what you do, at least replace all of the fuel lines, the impulse line, rebuild the carb, replace the starter rope and either replace or plug the decomp (if it has one), as it'll no doubt be leaking if it's had much use. I'll bet that Matt, Thomas, Carl, Steve, and Kenneth will chime in with more sage words of wisdom. They've got me in knowledge and experience in spades.

Buffalo Trace.

Save the other 2 for presents for someone else.

I am not a fan of Weller at all. But too each his own.

That depends. Probably $250-350 or more if they fix all of the other crap in the process. Some are lower, so it just depends, but good usually isn't cheap. It also depends on whether your saw needs a new P&C, crank bearings, etc. A total rebuild and porting, you might be closer to $750, in which case a NOS 365, 565, or used, good condition similar sized saw might be more attractive. You'd really have to assess the current saw in order to help answer that question. Something about the infamous line of "your mileage may vary"...
