Another step closer on the splitter mods. Picked a pair of leaf springs and mounting kit from Orchelns.
Hadn't planned on springs this quick, but I was there, and there they were and the price was right.

Glad yours is going well. Every time I start on mine something else on the farm breaks. The wife's car needs brakes all around so that's the next project. Then there's the garden that needs to be tilled, trim in a bathroom, yadda, yadda, yadda....

Stopped to shop at the local scrap yard today and found some new hyd fittings. The pallet that appears black inside is full of m12 x 2" bolts. All new.

Got one side of my brakes done today. Took about 6 hours or so. Ugh! Took off the drum and a couple springs fell out that were already broken. Ran to town to get more, along with everything else needed to just completely rebuild them. Since I wasn't able to study them as I took it apart, it was a lot of back and forth to the computer to study internet pictures. Now it's raining, so the other side will have to wait. It should go much faster than the first. Fingers crossed.
When doing brakes, leave the other side together and use it as a road map.

Getting ready to leave out for a week in St Augustine, FL. All my daughters and my two grandchildren are loading up in about an hour to head that way! Hope to get a little saltwater fishing in, swim with the dolphins, and hit a couple national parks and beaches. I will take some pics along the way. Have a good weekend all!

You are 100% correct Steve. We have a term for that technique but it is not politically correct!
This is a redneck shade tree operation up here, Steve. :D

The other side is still together, but I only have one jack and no stands. Have to lift one side, work, and then switch to the other. I have those springs memorized now though.

I used to have a set, but in the past two or three moves they've come up missing.

Hell if you were nearer I'd loan you mine. I will be doing similar work soon as I have to replace my axle seals and pinion seal n my F-350 dually. I also now have to take apart the back end of my Toyota Sequoia because a wheel lug stripped out the other day while dealing with a flat. On the back end of the Toy its a monumental PITA as it's disc service over drum park brakes. You have to remove the caliper, rotor and drum to access the lugs and then there's precious little room to fish the lugs out and back in. Now that I know how to do it, it's a bit less painful but it still sucks.

On a happier note, I worked alone on Friday and Dad and I bucked, split and hauled Ash, Oak, Hack and Hedge today. I also was loaned a 16' bed early '80's C6500 dump truck which made life A LOT better today. Yesterday's haul was solo and I bucked, loaded and unloaded a friend's 18' steel deck car hauler (with sides I fabricated). I had wood loaded until the start of the dove tail and probably only had that 7K trailer 2-3K over gross. Luckily I only had to haul it about 1/4-1/2 mile from the treeline to my driveway. Unloading it sucked though as my arms were charlie-horsing. The last two days have DEFINITELY shown me how far I've come since surgery and how far I have yet to go... If the tractor with bale spears isn't available tomorrow, I will be going to Church and visiting a rancher friend who's been basically a step-Grandfather to me as he was my Father's-Father's best friend and Grandpa died well before I came into the world. He's only getting older and not in great shape and it's painful to see as He's one of the ones who truly taught me about Hard work, moderation (in all things), Speculative Masonry and how to be a good man/friend to others. I really need to get this wood hauled, but I think tomorrow may be better spent seeing Leonard as I can cut on Monday and I don't know how many more days I will have to give him a hug, say thank you and let my kids meet/know one of my biggest mentors in life.

Sorry for the novel but I have a ot of thoughts running around rright now and y'all are a better sounding board than most.

Cobey, I may have to give you a call. Can you pm me your # again?

I may have to borrow the Boss's phone (as mine is an outdated POS) and snap a picture of the wood piles. It's not much compared to Matt's norma hauls, but I was proud of the hauls.
