Gonna send this one off to a fella in Ohio..

Hope it cuts ok.

That looks amazing.

Stopped by a friend's work site today, he was taking down a tree. He was in the tree trying to explain to his groundie how to cut the limbs up on the trailer so they will lay better to get more on the trailer. I said I will give him a demo on how it is done. He said "Please do". I picked up his 460 and started mulching the limbs down. It wouldn't cut for crap. I said "this chain needs work". He said, "the file is in the truck". I look at the chain and it was fubar'd. You guys would come unglued. Anyhow, he had full skip square on the damn thing. I told him "I don't file square and by the looks of it, this chain needs about an hours worth of TLC to get it back".

I went home and got my saws. I told him I could send his chains to be made better than new if he wanted. He said "No thanks". He can't sharpen round chain to save his life, much less square. He takes all his chains in to get them sharpened but our shop doesn't file square. I offered to convert them to round for him. He said, "No I will square file them". OK...

Got a full trailer load of pin oak (about 24" diameter stem) plus some decent limbs out of the deal though.

Hell if you were nearer I'd loan you mine. I will be doing similar work soon as I have to replace my axle seals and pinion seal n my F-350 dually. I also now have to take apart the back end of my Toyota Sequoia because a wheel lug stripped out the other day while dealing with a flat. On the back end of the Toy its a monumental PITA as it's disc service over drum park brakes. You have to remove the caliper, rotor and drum to access the lugs and then there's precious little room to fish the lugs out and back in. Now that I know how to do it, it's a bit less painful but it still sucks.

On a happier note, I worked alone on Friday and Dad and I bucked, split and hauled Ash, Oak, Hack and Hedge today. I also was loaned a 16' bed early '80's C6500 dump truck which made life A LOT better today. Yesterday's haul was solo and I bucked, loaded and unloaded a friend's 18' steel deck car hauler (with sides I fabricated). I had wood loaded until the start of the dove tail and probably only had that 7K trailer 2-3K over gross. Luckily I only had to haul it about 1/4-1/2 mile from the treeline to my driveway. Unloading it sucked though as my arms were charlie-horsing. The last two days have DEFINITELY shown me how far I've come since surgery and how far I have yet to go... If the tractor with bale spears isn't available tomorrow, I will be going to Church and visiting a rancher friend who's been basically a step-Grandfather to me as he was my Father's-Father's best friend and Grandpa died well before I came into the world. He's only getting older and not in great shape and it's painful to see as He's one of the ones who truly taught me about Hard work, moderation (in all things), Speculative Masonry and how to be a good man/friend to others. I really need to get this wood hauled, but I think tomorrow may be better spent seeing Leonard as I can cut on Monday and I don't know how many more days I will have to give him a hug, say thank you and let my kids meet/know one of my biggest mentors in life.

Sorry for the novel but I have a ot of thoughts running around rright now and y'all are a better sounding board than most.

Cobey, I may have to give you a call. Can you pm me your # again?
No problem my friend, I'll send it

This is a redneck shade tree operation up here, Steve. :D

The other side is still together, but I only have one jack and no stands. Have to lift one side, work, and then switch to the other. I have those springs memorized now though.

Sounds like your workshop is similar to mine.

I hate to sound like a hillbilly, but since some of you already saw my log splitter you have figured out I make do with what is available.

A nice, short round of oak will work as a jack stand in a pinch.

He can't sharpen round chain to save his life, much less square. He takes all his chains in to get them sharpened but our shop doesn't file square.

I haven't mastered square yet, but I can make round file chain cut pretty well. There was a member on another site that said something to the effect of "Running a dull chain on a good saw is like taking a shower and putting your dirty underwear on afterward." That thought stuck with me. I switch chain or sharpen if it doesn't cut well.

Glad yours is going well. Every time I start on mine something else on the farm breaks. The wife's car needs brakes all around so that's the next project. Then there's the garden that needs to be tilled, trim in a bathroom, yadda, yadda, yadda....

Brake pads installed on all wheels on the wife's car.

And I used a jack stand. :clapclap:

Whatcha doin so far south, Doug?
Just felt like goin to Lamberts? :)
Going to Graceland! Realized Lamberts was on the way. So we stopped. Good thing. Blew a tire on trailer. Then jack would not lift trailer high enough in Lamberts parking lot. Only 1.5 ton jack. So I dug a small hole to get the rest of the way up. Also raised the front of camper to tilt back of trailer up. Just made it to Graceland RV park.

Dry most of the day except when trying to change the tire it started raining. Only had one socket for ratchet. It was the correct socket for this trailers wheels.
