If it wasn't for the price of the files,I can make square filed chain cut fence wire real good.
Doug, if/when you have a bit of time, could I get you to make a short video of that S.S.-S.E. going through some nasty crap? Dad and I are deciding between the HD and SE models and I'm really leaning towards sending the additional $1200 to get the SE from a capability and longevity perspective, but I've yet to see one taking really nasty knots or just big pieces.
Hydro log there! Here you go. Some difficult splitting. Would have been quicker to noodle or toss into the burn pit. Took 8 mins to completely split each piece. Edited to make it shorter. video is of black locust, green ash, and bur oak.
Some pieces are just aweful..Here you go. Some difficult splitting. Would have been quicker to noodle or toss into the burn pit. Took 8 mins to completely split each piece. Edited to make it shorter. video is of black locust, green ash, and bur oak.
Have to agree. Some pieces, no matter what kind of splitter you've got, are just plain mean and nasty. Some pieces are just aweful..

I've run Doug's Super Splits and I've run several other hydro's. It's really a matter of knowing the machine and reading the wood.[/QUOTE
Fire fixes everything
HiI found it now![]()
I hacked down a standing dead 12" wild cherry last spring. It had been dead for 3 years or so. Splitting maul barely dented it. It took a 35 ton splitter to knock it in half. It was in a field and every 20" piece had 4" of twist to it. MiserableSome pieces are just aweful..
