Amazon had a sale with a coupon only on the 25 size. Replaced a cheaper reel with this. Magnesium body on a carbon fiber rod makes for a light combo. Merry Christmas early. 21° right now. Got to start packing a bit of food and making coffee for the thermos. Going to be cold on the water this morning.

Good morning MW crew . Our overnite dropped just a bit, to -11f. We'll rocket to +16f a bit later, and then back to a seasonal range of teen overnights and to +30f to +40f daytimes for the next week, and that's at our place with trees, in central MN. Not to bad for the upper midwest, if I do say myself.

@Only the Tony, Do you have issues with eyelets freezing up with temps like you are expecting this morning?

There’s no trees there. What’s anybody supposed to hide behind?
Just about 20!yards north there is a tree line & about 1200 acres or more of crp/timber.
There are some grass back terraces back to the east of him in the picture that give a nice view

The deer just flock out into Dad’s row crop morning & evening.

The deer was shot by the red mark & all the yellow is crp/tmber/creek

The guy that owns most of the surrounding crpbdoesn’t allow deer hunting & the farm directly west only allows bow hunting.

Yes, but I have fished this weather so many times that dipping the rod tip in the water to get rid of the ice is old hat. Required some hand warmers today to keep my fingers working. Right now I am jig fishing over brush piles so I'm not retrieving the line constantly. I take the line up with one hand, catch it with the fingers holding the rod, grab the line above the reel and do the same motion over until I bring up the fish. This allows me to return to the same depth where I caught the last one. I'll try to get some pictures at some point to better explain.

Productive day today. Only three whites with the rest blacks. Done by 12:05. Warming up in front of the fire after cleaning those. Neighbor gave me a ham from a local shop the other day so I will take him some crappie fillets for a thank you.

This was a new way of fishing for Matt when I took him out with me. This will give you an idea of what I am doing. Using the trolling motor to anchor lock on brush and dropping jigs either straight down or tossing and allowing to swing toward the brush. Keeping your depth the same insures that you don't get hung up all the time and keeps repeatability.
