I need to make some of those. What kind of wood should I use if mine will be exposed to rain? Treated lumber, Cedar, something else?
Shutters have to be made out of cedar.....and you have to buy the cedar from me......for a lot of $.....
;)

If I was making shutters I would use cedar because it's what I have....treated would work also, but it might not hold up to direct sun as well as cedar.

I like cedar too..

But with a good stain, any wood can be used.

I hate treated lumber..

I like low maintenance. I would install powder coated aluminum if there is such a thing and I could afford it.

Shutters are hung vertically under some sort of an overhang/guttering,,

So they are in the dry “most” of the time,,

You can get away with most anything with a good coat of what’s needed..

Muddy water hitting the lake yesterday. I always find it interesting to see how it takes a while, when two different temperatures of water meet, to mix. Seen it a few times where two rivers meet and looking down in the water looks like a wall.
Just down from Missouri River coming into Mississippi River there are 2 water pickup towers. No I'm not making the 200 mile round trip for a pictoor. One closer to west Bank, other a lot further out so a choice of which River has least mudyness to clean out for water supply to St. Louis, Missouri faucets.

Other things I’ve made from fence pickets.

My house came with plastic slotted shutters on it. About 15-20 years ago I made new ones using cedar fence pickets and polyurethane sealed. Back then I think I had about 30-40 $ in them.
How long did they last? How often did you treat them?
