Had an AMT Hardballer several years ago. Got rid of it since I never used it. May look at something in the 5.7x28 range one of these days.
Never experienced 5.7x28, but I kinda like the .22 tcm in a 1911.
Gobs of noise, and great balls of fire, but zero recoil.

Just got back from Alan and Rebekah’s. Took a load of burnables to put on their burn pile.
Most of what they hauled yesterday was scrap metal I decided needed to go away. I also had them take a 317 parts mower and two Yamaha 200cc three wheelers I acquired a couple of years ago. Had originally planned on using them at the stamp but never got around to working on them. Technically one of them ran when I got them the other I was going to keep for spare parts. It would run also but oil would run out the bottom of the engine somewhere. When we arrived and pulled up to the house, here came James buzzing around the end of the house on the good one. The smile he had on his face told me right then that they went to the best place. I smiled big when he came ripping by us.
:)

Best thing about smiling while riding this time of year is not having bugs in ur teeth.

The 38-55?
38 cal with 55 grains blackpowder I believe
Since ,45/70 starts w caliber and 70 grains o powder. Fired a 45-70 built on a 98 Mauser action from a bench, hunkered down, touched it off and was pushed vertical by the recoil. Set it down and was asked if I wanted to try a 500 grain bullet after that 350 gr.
Respectfully declined

True about the grains of bp and caliber.

I love me some 45-70!

Was at the range once and a sheriff's deputy stopped by.....he was intrigued by my 45-70 so I offered to let him shoot it a few times.....
I thoroughly enjoyed watching him flinch every time he pulled the trigger....but, he was a very good sport about it....

First off, I'm not responsible if'n y'all blow yourself up!

And now that the formalities are out of the way.....

I bought it in 2019 have only had it to the range a few times, and haven't used it in two years.

I bought one box of cowboy action rounds when I first got it, just to try it out, but they are super anemic.
The factory ammo was just so so for accuracy.

I bought dies to reload it, and worked on it a bit.

My home loaded lead tumbled bad, I think because of a bore diameter issue..... I think the 38-55 is supposed to use a .379" or .380" pill, but my best results were with regular .375" bullets.

The factory stuff....

My home brew...

With this load we were easily hitting a 8" steel plate at 230 yds. with the factory iron sights....and I ain't no John Wayne.....

I'm not saying that's the best powder, but it was on my shelf, so that's where I started.
I think RL7 or 4198 might be better, idk.

And the homemade lead load......
