I'm like you and a lot of us on here, I'm sure, I truly enjoy everything about the firewood process. From running saws, to splitting wood, to burning it in my stoves.
You forgot stacking… Maybe because your like me & loath the stacking process. Lol. Stacking won’t be a bad deal for @plcnut though with all those kids running around.

My kids are good at getting the job done. They are hard workers and seem to enjoy it.

The only thing keeping things as green as they are around here has been the morning dews. Most mornings I would have about .01” or a tick more in the gauge.

This rain path isn’t looking too promising for you but maybe it will shift a bit more east.

I guess I did. Lol It is my least favorite part as well. I managed to get some stuff split up back in July, that will be burnt this year and it didn't get stacked..........it got thrown in a pile and I'll pull it from there. I usually just split stuff, throw it in a pile and then go out after supper every night and stack a bit at a time until it's done.

To be honest Jim, you have my mighty fine wood stacks though. So your dislike for stacking wood doesn't show in the finished product.

Thank you.

It’s just easier to mow around them & keep the weeds & tall grasses trimmed back/eliminated with it on pallets. There is usually less to dig out of the snow when we get snow.

Dropped a new pump in the well this evening.
Learned that the problem was not the pump.
We are out of water.
Pump is dry at 480', so we are planning to add 40' of pipe tomorrow and drop it a little lower. Our liner ends at 500', and I don't really like the idea of dropping the pump below it, but we have to get to where the water is. The sediment is at around 670' (the hole was 730' originally). The formation down there is pretty rough though.
It's always something. :)
Hopefully you'll get it working again, being without water ain't no fun!
Our well is only 180' and isn't a great producer, so we have to be careful. In fact we're out of water at the moment, I'm waiting for it to recover so I can take a shower and get to sleep.

Well, we got some rain overnight & it’s still raining lightly. From yesterday morning to this morning I had 1.39” hopefully it’s widespread & a common amount.

Nope

If you lived more north the 560 boiler would not be big enough. They run better with seasoned wood. You can run a mix but need some seasoned wood for clean burning gasification. Going on my 11th year with a central gasser.

I want to run only well seasoned wood, and hopefully a lot less than what I have had to use in the past.
Is yours a Central Boiler?

The steel casing is 6" ID. It goes down 110'.
Then there is solid rock to 460'.
After that is formation until 600' and it is solid rock to 730'.
We put in a new 4" sch40 PVC liner a few months ago. The liner is hanging, and goes down to 500'.
Static water was at 360'.
You were saying you were on a hill in Mansfield..

What is your elevation there?

Honestly, that CB makes more sense for you to run than most of us.
You can get your tech/brain on with it and already have the central HVAC to install the heat exchanger in.
Plus backup generator for power outages.
I believe Doug is running a Central boiler gasification unit. Which likes dry wood for optimal performance..

Expect the propane price to hover around the $2 mark for at least 2 years till the US gets the worlds energy mess sorted out. We in the US and Canada won’t see the obnoxious prices Europe and Asia will be seeing in the short term.
But EVERYTHING will be going up at a less desirable rate than we’ve become accustomed to the last 30 years. If you have the cash to control your inputs now, best make that move.

I use the exact same system for my split stuff (with the exception of the pile I just created). It also give air flow all the way around the stack, so the pieces at the bottom don't just rot away.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with ya here. I don't think we've seen anything yet, in terms of prices of things going up. The next 5 years is going to get interesting I think.
