@Hedgerow ,
Those purple ones don’t require any sugar they are actually sweeter than the raspberries. My SIL was pretty excited to get a quart of ripe ones usually the birds clean them up pretty fast.
I guess I’ve never had a ripe one then..

Always been green..

Like eating a spoon of alum... lol

That’ll buy ya some time.

Any more in the near future?

We’re staring down the barrel of a week straight of 100 degree crap. The corn across the road was curling yesterday afternoon already.
And it just got 1.7” the day prior..

Too damn hot here to grow good corn..

Cotton likes it hot as well. It prefers super hot in the day, but then it has to cool down at night.
The cotton plant "works" the hardest when the heat is high, but it has to have it's nightly rest. It goes dormant below a certain temperature, and needs that rest nightly to produce the best during the day.

Corn needs the cool at night too, or it can't respirate.. Its a real yield killer, especially when it's tastling and making silk to polinate.
If ya got irrigation, it's best to water lightly every night to help cool the plants down.

Last Thursday I shot my 15th rabbit of the year that was eating my flowers and shrubs. A perfect shot from 11 meters, pellet gun with a scope sight, the rodent moved only 4 feet and keeled over. I left it there overnight and the next morning my favorite opossum carried it away. He's a dead ringer for Hedgerow's avatar Pic. Tough little guy and quietly goes about his business. He and I get along very well.

We more like Louisiana than Oklahoma here.

I was way off on where Broken Bow is. I thought it was quite a bit west. The coming days sound like they're going to be miserable. Stay cool.

"Nestled in the foothills of the Kiamichi Mountains, this rural community of nearly five thousand, ranks as a top contender for a place to live and raise children, as well as a major tourist area."
----------------
One of my good friends when I was in college was born in Broken Bow. Hot and humid summers are not uncommon, but that is true of many cities in this region.
