I would even like one of those! Those heavy 10's, from what I've seen are pretty slick little lathes, but man do they demand a hefty price anymore. Which is why I don't have one, and started looking at the newer imports, as far as small lathes go.

Mine is a model 69, made on 6/8/1922. It's cataloged as a 16x8, but it has 3" riser blocks, so it can actually swing around 22", if I needed to. The whole machine is about 8 1/2' long, but it's only about 60" between centers, and I run a 12" chuck. I'm in the process of installing a Baldor 3 HP, 3 PH motor with a KBAC VFD, to replace the old Westinghouse, 2 HP single phase, and drum switch setup. That'll make it nicer to run.

Gunsmithing is exactly why I want a smaller one, and I really want a machine that is easier to switch a collet chuck onto too. I have to use shims on my jaws if I want to hold anything smaller than 3/4", due to the size of the chuck, so holding anything small gets to be a pain at times.
I thought about buying a precision one and a mill and build a few rifles.

I'd have to build a 3rd shop lol

Saturday morning’s snag:

The 028 Super runs and idles fine. Something caused it to melt the oil pump gears and cover.

The 011AVTEQ runs and cuts (sort of). Needs fuel lines and ‘The Dip’. Sharpen the chain for sure. [emoji2960]

MS250: No comp and missing starter and AF cover.

Build it, muffler mod, and put a ms170 low profile bar and chain on it ...16 inch ..

You will thank me later.

Built SBD-BOB one and everyone that runs it falls in love with it ,

Well, I just have a 2 car garage, but I've already had to add another 300 sq ft onto it, to fit all my stuff, and this summer will be adding another 300 sq ft. So I know the feeling! Lol There's just never enough room, and the more room I have, the more stuff I accumulate.

The funny thing about machining, is when I got into it, I looked at the prices of machines as the big expense. My buddy kept telling me, the tooling is what's going to cost the most. It didn't quite make sense at first, but it sure did, within a few months! Tooling can nickel and dime a guy into the poorhouse, if he lets it. Lol

[QUOTE="Dub11,

Pics man!!

We got a 67 SB Turnado at work and an even older one we use for hand sanding some rollers. I'll get some pics tonight at work. QUOTE]

Let me charge up the ole camera and I'll get a few pics. She's nothing special, just like everything else I own, but she gets the job done. Lol

Those Turnado's are nice as well! A welding shop in the next town over has one I got to play with for an hour or so. I liked it!
My boss snagged this from somewhere in eastern Colorado a few years back. It's way better than the Sharp we had.

Funny thing about the sharp it had a big chunk of bondo pop off when it slipped off the dolly as we were moving it. I guess a lot of poorly casted foreign lathelahave this problem.

Dropped a small tree for the neighbor, man I need to pay more attention to my fell cuts. Went where I needed it to and got a wheelbarrow load of wood. Also looked at the 6421 I picked up a few months ago. Throttle cable was keeping the butterfly from closing but still need to investigate the oil leakage. Now just need to get it in some wood.

That's a nice little South Bend! Every time I see a nice one like that, it makes me want one even more. There's just no second hand market out here, and I don't have the means or vehicle to travel all over running down equipment. Mine doesn't have paint left on it, and I forgot to get pictures today.........so I'll get some tomorrow.

I also like that Clausing. I hear Clausing made some good equipment, but I don't have any first hand experience. That setup will surely handle a bunch of different types of work. Nice setup!

Both of these machines are excellent if doing very precise fine cuts. They just aren’t heavy enough for the things I generally use the for. Luckily dad has a big American lathe I have access to if I need it. I’d like to upgrade the lathe to a 13 or 16” south bend with collets. But I only want a 3-4’ bed. All the ones around here that size have a 6-8’ bed.

Yeah, I don't need as long of a bed as mine has either. 4' would be more than long enough. I only had to travel 15 miles to get mine, so I wasn't going to be picky. I felt fortunate just to get one, and not have to pay shipping. :-)

It's good you have access to your Dad's lathe if needed. American brand lathe's seem to be pretty popular.

Yea the American is a good machine. Very heavy built. Not as smooth as the south end but tuff. Can take an extremely heavy cut and not sweat it. I’m talking 1/8”+ per pass with the right tooling. Crazy.

That would be nice when a guy needs it for sure! Mine starts bogging, thus leading to chattering, if I try to push it to .060" per side, and that's in mild steel. I'm hoping the motor upgrade will allow me to take .075" per side, in any material, but we'll see. South Bends, just aren't as rigid as other machines. Mine weighs right at 1780 lbs. Gear head lathes 16x60, will usually weigh twice that. Someday, maybe I'll be able to get a heavier built lathe, but I'm grateful to have something, instead of nothing. :-)

Sounds like you got plenty of cool "toys" to play with!

Have a good week man!

Those 2511t’s are handy little saws. I took off the 14”b/c & replaced it with a 12” so they are the same as my Stihl pole saw. I took off the VXL chain & replaced it with Stihl chain & bar. The VXL chattered pretty bad & I didn’t care for the bar, the hole on sprocket end that opens into the drivelink groove seemed like it allowed the oil to be pushed out. I had my buddy make me up a bumper spike/case guard out of stainless for it. Mine is no longer Osage yellow I just blew it off this evening.

Did that Stihl bar bolt straight up, or were there mods to make it happen? Also, does that bar have a roller nose or is it a hard nose? I do like the spike and case guard!

Roller nose ms170 low profile bar , bolts right up ,
Sthil dealer here said "DAMN" what a fine little saw....

My 80 year old dad ran it Friday to see if he liked it , he said the most balanced, powerful little saw he ever picked up.

8 or 10 have tried it and everyone loves it.

I bought 2 saws off a guy that had no compression, a Husqvarna 44 and this ms250
The 250 had that bar and chain on it ,
Best little saw I ever ran by far
