Son's new toy.
I was ready to plug it in.
He was sat down reading the manual, cleaning it, lubricating all the points that take lube, all the smart things first. Then he ran it through some trial runs.
He's proud of it and I'm proud of him.
:)

That's awesome Steve! I' in no hurry for my children to get older, but I look forward to seeing the Man and Woman that they become!!

On a different note, Dad brought a new toy over today, and we broke it in properly, on Hedge: Echo 2511T. Even semi-hobbled up, I still got a chit-load cut, and we filled the trailer, between it, the 201 and the 346 that @Mastermind built. That thing runs like a scalded dog, and has VERY good torque for a 346, it's a keeper!! I could run this little Echo all day!!!

It's a neat little runner, and moves like a motorized scalpel. You definitely can't crowd it, you just have to let the chain work, but it does VERY well. The throttle response is lazy, but it wraps out decently. Eventually I'll send it off for a breathing treatment.

Those 2511t’s are handy little saws. I took off the 14”b/c & replaced it with a 12” so they are the same as my Stihl pole saw. I took off the VXL chain & replaced it with Stihl chain & bar. The VXL chattered pretty bad & I didn’t care for the bar, the hole on sprocket end that opens into the drivelink groove seemed like it allowed the oil to be pushed out. I had my buddy make me up a bumper spike/case guard out of stainless for it. Mine is no longer Osage yellow I just blew it off this evening.

The hole circled in red. Doesn’t make sense to me. Seems to me like it allows the bar oil to seep out instead of going on around the sprocket. Yours looks to be full of debris. Maybe that’s the thought for having it there. :nusenuse:

Nice! I would love to get a smaller little lathe like this. Mine is a 100 year old South Bend, and while it does OK, for as old and worn out as it is, it doesn't do small things very well. I bet your son's will though! I'm happy for him! I love seeing people getting into machining, especially manual machining!

Yes I like the southbends I have a circa 40’s 10k heavy 10. Has a 36” bed. Which southbends do you have. Mine is almost too small but perfect for gunsmithing. It does smal things great but struggles on the heavier cuts and pieces.

My 2511 started running a lot better and spooling up faster after about 4 tanks. My professional friend used it to trim a huge Maple tree in the front yard and all he said over and over was "It's so tiny compared to my Echo 360."

Friend Josh sent his over to @Stump Shot for a couple weeks of weight camp and stuff. From the looks of the video it turned out to be real angry.

I can't wait for the rear handle 2511 version to show up here.

We got a 67 SB Turnado at work and an even older one we use for hand sanding some rollers. I'll get some pics tonight at work.

I wish I had more free time to mess with them. Also have a Bridgeport.

I've told my coworker buddy if this place shuts down we're coming in that night to swip them lol.

I would even like one of those! Those heavy 10's, from what I've seen are pretty slick little lathes, but man do they demand a hefty price anymore. Which is why I don't have one, and started looking at the newer imports, as far as small lathes go.

Mine is a model 69, made on 6/8/1922. It's cataloged as a 16x8, but it has 3" riser blocks, so it can actually swing around 22", if I needed to. The whole machine is about 8 1/2' long, but it's only about 60" between centers, and I run a 12" chuck. I'm in the process of installing a Baldor 3 HP, 3 PH motor with a KBAC VFD, to replace the old Westinghouse, 2 HP single phase, and drum switch setup. That'll make it nicer to run.

Gunsmithing is exactly why I want a smaller one, and I really want a machine that is easier to switch a collet chuck onto too. I have to use shims on my jaws if I want to hold anything smaller than 3/4", due to the size of the chuck, so holding anything small gets to be a pain at times.

Let me charge up the ole camera and I'll get a few pics. She's nothing special, just like everything else I own, but she gets the job done. Lol

Those Turnado's are nice as well! A welding shop in the next town over has one I got to play with for an hour or so. I liked it!
