I don't see a face cut or a hinge.
It looks like they just made a straight cut on one side then made another straight cut on the back side.
But I'm no expert.
:)
That's what they did. Everything from 24"- 2" is straight cut no hinge.

They stump jumped them..

They’ll tap dance around on the stump.

There’s a few problems with doing that. Most are self evident..

I don't see how it fell over doing it that way.
I do see it as a great way to get your saw pinched.
They’ll eventually go the general direction of the lean.
If they’re leaning too much, they can barberchair like a mf’er.. not enough, and a good gust of wind can send em the wrong way as they spin around on the stump and hold yer saw hostage..

Yes I agree. Most if these look like they twisted as they fell wierd.

I bet 1) they pushed them over, 2) pulled them over, 3) went the direction of the lean on their own, or 4) went wherever the wind blew them...

I saw a couple guys doing tree removal for a neighbor, some big trees IMO. They just went around the trunk and started cutting in a flat line until it fell over...

That is called a pulpwood cut down south.
Stand on one side of tree and do both cuts without moving.
Use top and bottom of bar. Very fast to lay down a stand of pine or gum.
Still use that cut for sweet-gum around field edges as they are always leaning.
When cutting smaller sweet-gum, if you do not cut thru the hinge it will barber chair or
stay standing after closing the face cut.
Should have a clear escape route especially on 12 inch and larger.

12" and up get a face cut if the saw is in my hands....
