Omaha reached 18 F this morning, but the wind had subsided. I may go out this afternoon and process another truckload of oak, elm, and cottonwood. That combination heats my stove like gangbusters. LOML throws in the cottonwood because it's lightweight and I throw in the rest. I'm still feeding my 1987 Federal Airtight 288. It's a wood heating machine:

Those look like pre-fab concrete blocks.
I need pics of how you anchored the steel ribs to them!

And how does the cost compare to conventional building per square foot?

Same on this this end of the state........25 degrees and 20 mph north wind. Even after all these years living out here, it never ceases to amaze me how much different 25 degrees feels, with no wind and then with 20-30 mph winds. I like the temp, not the wind!

Material with blocks was $3.75 sqft. Blocks were $50 each at 4400 lbs each. Total of 20 blocks. I hauled 7 each trip. Total of 90 1/2 x 8 inch concrete bolts. No doors just a roof. Keep snow and rain off wood and stuff.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that I also enjoy burning seasoned mulberry in that wood stove. It's the closest thing I have to Hedgerow's collection of osage orange trees. Sometimes I worry that it will burn out the bottom of my stove. BTW, I named my hand carved bear Hedge. He remains resting on my front porch, welcoming visitors.
