I would check these things first.....what's the compression.... Is it AM cylinder? Check to make sure the case hold good vacuum. I have had the case hold low pressure OK but fail under vacuum. Especially a crank seal.

It just bogs down in the cut/no grunt. Before it came to me it had a new cylinder (oem), carburetor, etc. It pressure tests fine, has good compression, but still dies in the cut. With a 20" bar on it, it does ok, but anything bigger and it falls flat on its face. I'll try to swap the coil from my 460 onto it and try again.
Fuel tank vent OK?

Think I got a rare score for this far north. I think it is Hedge. The certified master arborist said mulberry but don't think she got out of her car. But the growth rings are tight. I took it only because it was solid. What do you guys think. I say hedge.

Plus got some nice walnut in same trip. Got these in Des Moines at a Habitat for Humanity land/lot clear project.

I would have to agree. It looks an awful lot like mulberry bark to me. Hedge bark is alot different.

Vac/pressure test check out. I don't remember compression, but I remember that it was good (like 140-160-ish), and it is a new Stihl cylinder. I put a new oil pump and oil line on because it was leaking some.

I haven't checked the tank vent recently, but I am pretty sure I checked that last year when I was messing with it.

Basically, I'm going to swap coils, run it, then start at the top of the list of things to check/test and perform every test/check again and go from there. I'll probably start a new thread on it later. It's been an ongoing saga. One of those special projects.

Marc, your boys still work on saws?
Well, yes, no and maybe. Mason and Max would both still like to work on them from time to time but when we get in the basement they get distracted. You see, the basement is where their mother makes them store their 22 pistols. Once we get down there and near the saws it's only a matter of a few moments before I hear "Hey Dad, didn't I see a brick of 22 shells on your bench?..."

This Christmas I had scrimped and saved and worked some odd jobs so I could get each of them a 22 single action revolver, holster and some shells. Their mother was NOT a happy camper at first. When I told her it was the first step to squirrel gravy and fried rabbit she gave in.

Every couple of weeks Mason (Digger) will ask about his Echo and talk about building his next saw, which I think will be a 41 cc strato.

I got a few things accomplished today while the weather was warm. Put new brakes on the wife's car. Opened the garage door and sharpened the nicks out of the fiskars and my pair of limb loppers. Then I took some time and fooled around with my little John Deere saw and got it running. I let the boiler burn down real low and got the majority of the ashes cleaned out. Stacked a truck load of wood that I had been putting off....well that was yesterday, I guess.

Pretty good and productive weekend overall.

Do you need the wood for yourself? If so, set a date and we will be there if at all possible. You had me at homemade cinnamon rolls. Actually, you had me at "plenty of wood to cut"...
No sir, we are pretty good on wood right now. My Dad had a neighbor who had several nice red oaks and one enormous walnut cut down on his property. The tree service said they charged less if they just got to drop the trees and walk away so he went that route, leaving me about 8 cords of nice wood. My Dad got about the same amount or more, he has an outdoor wood burner and can burn near anything. I have an Ashley wood stove and I t is picky on the size of the wood.

If you don't mind, I'll save that offer of woodcutting for a year or two. My Dad turned 77 last year and although he is still active and healthy, both of his parents died at 80. I figure his days of woodcutting are coming to a close soon and I may need some help when it comes time to feeding that outdoor wood burner.

I bought Dad an MS180 5 or 6 years ago because it had the easy start feature. He really liked it. I have rebuilt the carb a couple of times (he still mixes at 16:1), put on two new bars and sharpened many, many, many chains for him but that saw is still going. At last count, he had cut over 40 cords with it.

About those cinnamon rolls - I understand there is a GTG coming up in March. If I am able to make it there will a at least one pan (commercial size) with me when I get there.

58º here, lol. Going to load 2-3 trailer loads of sweet gum this afternoon. Have a good one and be safe today...
Sweet gum? Isn't that stuff near impossible to split? I had heard it wasn't any good for firewood. Maybe I heard wrong...
