Nice aircraft and nice pics!
I crawled through FiFi back in 1978 at the Conderfederate Air Force (now Commemorative Air Force to be politically correct [emoji53]) show in Harlingen, TX.
It would be amazing to take a ride in Gunfighter if it wasn't for the $2k for 30 minute ride cost.
The cost to operate those aircraft is enormous though.
The cost to fly FiFi is estimated at around $10K per hour. It goes through around 475 gallon of av gas per hour.

Those engines are pretty cool also. Back in the day they burned 115/145 octane fuel which was purple in color.
I don't think you can find 115/145 anywhere now due to EPA reg's and cost.
Later versions of that motor had power recovery turbines, think of a geared turbo charger with only a hot section
no compressor and a fluid coupling to feed power back to the gearbox.
Very interesting design for back in the day.
When I went to A&P school we had a cutaway on an engine stand with a small geared motor you could
turn on and watch run.
My old school has since closed do to lack of enrollment in the Aviation class.
I wonder what ever happened to a lot of the vintage equipment we had :crybaby2:

Green was the color of the night at the Lucas oil speedway.
Though a Massey snuck in for a third!
The class names are different than what I remember, but there were 4.
2 diesel, 1 alcohol, and one unlimited whatever.

Was a bunch of these..
Unlimited class.
Most were fully blown, solid block, multi engine alky burners..
Probably 3x’s the power that 10,000 pounds of puller could ever use.. but the sound they produced was epic..

Yes, but they are not water proof...i'd still like to try a pair but at $5-600 I can buy a few pairs of other brands.

These are water proof and run about $20.

Break in time is about 30 seconds, and eventually they get a fresh pine scent and sawdust therapy between the toes is free of charge.

You should try a pair.

I got to tour FiFi when they were in LaCrosse WI about a month ago. The motors drip a lot of oil so I asked how much they held. The crew member said 85 gallons but they run 65 gallons for these events. Also they use about 1 1/2 gallons on a 45 minute run.

I was told last week by a puller that regardless of the color of the hood, they all use Red for major parts of the powertrain.

He runs one of those solid block alky burners and says it takes 3 gallons of fuel per run.

I know the difference between the 2 diesel classes is cubic inch.
Not limited to stock block, so none of em run what they come with.
I know a couple fords that run DT466 motors, cuz they bolt in, then there are sleeve replacements for more cubes.. probably some are stroked too.

I “think”, the pro field class has to run the factory block, but that may have changed.

Mike Gott could probably give a more accurate run down.
