Another tech question..

On a simple 12v charging system, isn’t there supposed to be a wire directly from the alternator output to the positive terminal of the battery?

On a GM, yes, more or less. A fusible link normally inline to protect in case of a direct short.

Morning midlanders!

Sitting in the yard waiting for the noise curfew to be lifted. I got a saw to run test.

Tiger prancing around my feet making like a macho buck.

This is his territory and has to investigate everything.

Similar..
There are 2 wires that are connected, that attach to the alternator where the main battery cable attaches.
One is obviously back to the switch, but the other is a mystery.
Are they trying to charge the battery back through the positive battery cable?

It looks like the alternator output is through the heavy cable to the solenoid B+ then through the positive battery cable to the battery.

Generally, yes.
I can't speak for newer stuff, but there will usually be a wire that feeds to the positive side of the solenoid from the alternator. Then there also would be 1 or 2 additional wires that connect to the positive side of the solenoid and supplies power to the rest of the system through the fuse box. These extra wires are usually fuseable links. The newer, computerized, vehicles require more amperage to run things and seem to wire up different nowadays.

Does it have the typical Ford solenoid switch? Like they mount on the inner fender?

Latest Deere 65EV ran first pull on a dribble. [emoji16]

It makes a difference which flywheel goes with which ignition. It won’t run with the spark retarded 35 degrees.

The Deere 65EV is more of the ‘Road Warrior’ class than collector saw.
It needed four buffers, a flywheel change (and attendant ignition change [emoji37]), carb overhaul and clutch replaced.

16” hardnose and safety chain is due to lack of alternatives. [emoji51]

Actually cuts quite well.

The 660EVL I got going Thursday.

Crazy thing is, I get 14 volts at the alternator, but by the time it gets to the post on the starter solenoid, I get identical voltage as battery..
Bout 12.8-12.9.
