North side of lake..
area to the left is very slight grade.
Left of fence is shallow and at certain times of the year, full of Lilly pads and vegetation. Even no water at all sometimes, and that’s ok. 200 acres or so drain into this lake, maybe close to 300..

Looking southwest..

Use corner post for reference. This lake is probably 12-13 acres.. hard to tell exactly.
Natural movement is left to right. But there is no real overflow. It’s designed to take everything the section has to offer.
If the rainfall is heavy enough, it goes out and around the SE corner and along the south impoundment.
Which is grass covered.
In the 20 years I’ve been here it’s only happened a couple times, no damage cuz it moves pretty slow.

Ok, north bank, northwestern quadrant..

That’s a lift pump. 75 hp on 8” pipe..

It supply’s the center pivot with 500 GPM water.

Pipe goes through the impoundment, then back underground to the center pivot.

Just looked at the radar and the rain seems to be turning to snow around I90 as it heads north. Last I looked it’s around owatonna. Got a bunch of snow blown back to widen the sidewalks and driveway today as this over 30” month was melting today and making water puddles everywhere. Not looking forward to waking up tomorrow to see what kind of hell Mother Nature dumps upon us tonight.

Had to put down my 15 year old shepherd mix today. Been deteriorating steadily for last couple months. Finally back legs quit working. Hated to see him go. Noone loves you like a dog. Took him to the woods; came back alone. He’s in the same cairn as one cat and three other dogs. Hard to do but when you’re responsible you do what needs doing. All’s well

Pic from the very northwest corner..

Grass covered.. they just mow it in the summer.

The inside water side is coated with 1-2’ limestone aggregate to keep the trees and critters from making it Swiss cheese.
And yes, Sam has trapped a beaver out of there..
Yes... a beaver...

In the ‘40s & ‘50s people built cabins along the Meramac in south St. Louis county. Mostly on ten twelve foot stilts. Then in the ‘60s, put in trailer parks and subdivisions. Came the rains in ‘73 (?), all that flooded from Eureka down to the river’s mouth on the Mississippi.
I was not long out of the Navy hospital. Was 1973 and from my 2nd floor bedroom saw those weekend or full time stilt houses that floated, head for the Mississippi. The house was at least 250 feet higher according to the topographic map.
State stiffened up regs about buildings near the flood plain after that.

Sorry to hear you lost your buddy
My wife says I’m cold but I would rather take care of them and not let them suffer.
Did with a horse Friday.

nothing cold or easy about it. Like it or not part of being responsible.

Part of having animals...

Don’t make it any easier...

But them damn things just don’t live long enough...

Still better than nature though.
