I have a 4 mix, and it is very reliable, but the angle of the head isn't quite right. I liked my 25 yr old Echo SRM 225 ( I think that's what it was, maybe one model up from it) better, it was excellent. But I hear not so much good stuff about that line now. My 4 mix is about eight years old, and it works well. Slow to accelerate, but very very reliable.
I got to run a 4mix pole saw. Seemed pretty pathetic compared to our old ones. Seemed torquey but didn't rev very high. Cut alright. I could maybe see reliable but maybe. Seems like too much plastic inside them for my liking.

I have an Echo SMR 2200.It has to be 30 years old just keeps going.I use it about an hour a week in mowing season.Plus i have a brush blade I use on it,I have worn out 1 blade,on the second one.I cleaned out a fenceroow last fall with it cut stuff up to 4 inches. All I ever did to it was spark plug.I wouldn't even look at anything but Echo in trimmers

Don't even think about one of Stihl or Huskys offerings for string trimmers. Shop around for an Echo srm-225 or 2620 with the Speed-Feed head.
I have put a lot of hours on all these brands cutting brush and trail plus yard work. My pick of the litter is Shindaiwa or Echo.

My echo trimmer is still running strong! Almost to much power.

I didn't want to switch over, but mine was shot. Used it commercially in the 90s, ran over it with the trailer, you know the deal. It was the best trimmer ever. I improvised repairs on the starter cord assembly, but then something happened with the carb or something that I wasn't able to keep it running. It earned its reputation, though.

One thing I like is that my neighbor borrows it and it stihl works when I get it back. This the same guy who in 84 borrowed my chainsaw to cut roots out of fence postholes... very effective and time-efficient, just a tad rough on the chain and sprocket. He now has his own chainsaw LOL, and I stihl tease him about this. Before you start trashing the dude, he more than anyone else is responsible for my having learned to do so many things with my hands, and he suggested I buy my house, then abandoned but now worth twelve times the original price, and he got me the unit and supervised my install of central air which cost me $700 total some years back, which is the only way I could ever have afforded it. Cris is an excellent dude, but his creativity does admittedly violate the social mores governing chainsaw borrowing.

HAve a good day!

Want to use a chainsaw to cut roots? Get a cheap electric chainsaw and some durable chain.

I'm more just against the weight of them. I do more string trimming than anything.

I bought a Shindaiwa over 15 years ago and its been awesome. 22t maybe(?), I don't remember offhand. Being a mechanic, I should winterize it eachyear. I never have though and it fires right up every year. My dad has a 10 year old or so Stihl brush cutter. I've cut stuff up to 4 inches with it and its been awesome. It was before the 4mix, I don't know anything about those. I recently bought an Echo pole saw. It was customer appreciation day, all Echo 20% off. None of the dealers in Wichita recognized or even knew about it. I bought mine from a small dealer in Abilene. I haven't used it a lot yet but so far, I like it. Good afternoon y'all

Just stopped by my local harbor freight and they've got the low temp aluminum rods in stock. Gonna try one of their new Vulcan tig welders.

Spent a few hours down at Al's yesterday. His snapper rider quit along with his quad runner. Fuel problems with both.
Anyway, he gave me an air compressor. Said it was broken and he'd go buy another. It wasn't a big one by any means. 5 gallon tank with the compressor driven directly by the motor.
Got to looking at it this evening. It had power going through the switch. Pulled the cover off the motor assembly and saw a pair of capacitors. Figured one of the was bad. Then over in a hidden area of the unit I see a little push button switch. A safety switch. I wondered. I pushed it. It went "click". The motor started. Further checking and testing revealed that it is no worse for wear. I decided that I would return it to him as he didn't need to throw it away. There was nothing wrong with it and I wasn't going to profit by his misunderstanding of mechanical things.
He was very happy he didn't have to buy a new one. It turned out new ones were more expensive than he thought. More than his retirement income could provide.

I've got a Tanaka commercial trimmer and backpack blower that I really like a lot. The trimmer is amazingly quiet. Also got a Dolmar trimmer that works great.
I tried the Super EZ clearing bar out and this is the thing for clearing brush without constantly derailing your chain.
