I've had mine apart when I did my modifications a couple years ago. I don't know the difference between a JIC fitting and a rooster's butt. I used thread tape on the pipe threads and tightened the snot out of everything else. I don't know if its just me being an ignorant hillbilly or luck. But I know this, it ain't the space shuttle and its not leaking.

Splitter hose question: The assembly manual says to use pipe dope or teflon tape on the hose fittings, but the fitting are clearly conical JIC fittings, which the internet says do NOT take sealant. Permatex makes a hydralic thread sealer, but I think it may be for the older NPT fittings. I put them together fairly tightly the other day, just to keep dirt out of the system, and I wanted to make sure I knew what to do before final assembly. Now I see that JIC fittings can distort and not seal well when reused, which this may constitute if I take them apart and reconnect them. It was so cold out the other day, and I was racing against daylight, and I didn't really make sure every bit of debris or whatever was off the fitting. I just ran my cold finger on it to try to clean it.

Opinions?

The Teflon tape/ pipe dope is used to lubricate the threads to insure a tight/secure connection. I think they mean to not apply it to the conical area.

FYI. I have a wanted ad on cl for non running saws. I got a offer this morning to buy a brand new MS180 for $400. He claimed it was $800 new. I set him straight and then he asked what model am I looking for. He says he can get any model for half price. I know everyone on here would see the red flags but I figured I'd share it anyway. I do have the number he's using if it would be of use to anyone.

Teflon tape helps with the removal of fittings when you need to take them apart and pipe dope is used as a sealant. With the jic fittings I would use just pipe dope or a never seize as this will help prevent any binding during tightening. This is a common place where you think it’s tight but ends up leaking. Just had to repair a leaking gas line where the installer did not use pipe dope on the flare leaked. It was very tight but something bound and never truely sealed. When it doubt use a little pipe dope.

I got the dishwasher in, and there is no puddle coming out from under it. I always put a dab of vaseline on non-NPT threads, like supply lines, plastic p-traps, faucet nuts and such to facilitate later disassembly. Was careful to use just a little bit and to keep it out of the hose. The electrical part was a pain, but i got it all done, and the kitchen cleaned up.
