Do you need the pistol to make the holster?

I think some of the more professional makers have plastic pistol molds they use for the final molding. I've thought about using them but it seems, to me, that each gun is unique. Like its owner. So I prefer to use the actual pistol that is going to go in it. I've learned to triple wrap the pistol in saran wrap, then wrap it in painters tape to seal it while I'm wet forming the holster to the pistol.
The holster is submerged in hot water then shaken to to move the excess. The pistol is then inserted and the leather is hand molded to fit. Takes 2-3 hours for the molding then leave the gun in there for 24 hrs to let the leather dry. Then 5-6 applications of mink oil to finish.

I have three hundred defective kits from the Zama factory sitting here right now, but have sold thousands with very few issues
