Thanks Pogo, I didn't know that. I'll see what I can do. The video on my phone was too large to send to my email and it went to the cloud. When I downloaded it came in as a jpg.mov and I have never seen that before. OTIf you have any type of Google account you also automatically have a YouTube account.
I am not sure about the XL-12, but I have a Super XL. I really like it. Picked it up from an antique store for $65. Cleaned out the recoil, put new gas in it and it fired right up. This was my bridge into McCullochs...For those of you who’ve used both, how does the XL-12 compare?
I’ve never ran a 10-10, although I hope to acquire one soon. I do however have 3 XL12s and 4 Super XLs. I love them, good saws.I've spent the past few months diving into the McCulloch 10-10 series (especially my 10-10A from the mid 70s) and feel like I've gotten a good handle on them. But I don’t want to leave Homelite out of the mix, especially with all the history surrounding the XL-12. I'm considering picking one up on ebay or anywhere else. For those of you who’ve used both, how does the XL-12 compare? Is it worth adding to the collection? Any tips on what to look for when buying one?
Grab a Super XL, should compare to a 10-10 better. Their bearing setup is better than the XL-12, too. I like them both, a lot. Make sure the saw that you get doesn't have any corrosion, especially in the fuel tank. Different ignitions available, early ones used smaller bar mount. Your choice. Both have a lot of torque and are very loud and fun to run.I've spent the past few months diving into the McCulloch 10-10 series (especially my 10-10A from the mid 70s) and feel like I've gotten a good handle on them. Have a Super XL and a 10-10 and enjoy cutting with both, never ran an XL-12. One thing I found about the Super XL is mine does not like running in hot weather, as once it gets hot it shuts down due to the fuel boiling in the tank. Anyone else have this issue, or am I just 'special'?Here is information from Acres' site regarding differences in ccm between these saws:
XL-12 - 54.2 ccm
Super XL - 57.4 ccm
10-10 - 54 ccm
I have not run mine in hot weather for any period of time, so it is possible. I will have to give it a try next summer and see what happens. One thing I found about the Super XL is mine does not like running in hot weather, as once it gets hot it shuts down due to the fuel boiling in the tank. Nice! I have the exact same saw.Was gifted a Super XL. Tank was clean and dry so I added some fuel and primed it and away it went. It needs an air filter (has none) and could probably use a new fuel line, filter and plug. Don’t know what I’ll do with it yet. View attachment 441540
I'd like a super xl to find me as well. Had a regular one for many years and kinda miss old faithfulWas gifted a Super XL. Tank was clean and dry so I added some fuel and primed it and away it went.
