Correct.
Dakota digital makes one that fits the factory opening. There's also an interface I can plug into the Holley ecu, then the cluster and all the data is transferred.
Just not a cheap option
The price tag has my project on hold for a bit

I stumbled across some wire loom that was black and gray. Of course I thought it might look nice..

Well, it's not a split/wrap type and it's a major beeyotch to use.
Thought I would try the injector harness.

I found that it does this..

Unless you melt the end slightly..

Half done.

It does add something compared to the plain black but I doubt I will be doing much more just because of the difficulty of installing.

I did just think of something..
If I used lengths of tube, say some pex, pvc, brake tube, etc.. slide the loom over that, run the wires through, pull the tube out...
I wonder if that would work to feed the wires through easier.
You want me to mail you some pex?

Pulled the dash, bolted in the Dakota Digital and with the help of my wife got it back in with minimal scuffs and a scratch to the panels.

Still need to wire it.
It's their HDX series. I also got the add on integration module that plugs into my Holley system and gets almost all the info for the cluster from there.

No Uber.

Got the console in too.

And found out the transmission has no 4th gear.
I drove it to my parents last weekend. It goes 1, 2, 3, neutral...
I'm thinking there was a check ball in the valve body missed or a stuck valve.
Seeing it was a GM reman I'm waiting on our district rep to figure out how warranty will happen because they require dealers to connect every cars dlc to their system to prove it was actually at the shop.
This car not only isn't application correct, it doesn't possess a modern 17 digit VIN or a standard DLC due to the Holley system...

Uppipes (manifold to turbo) are leaking in the ole seven-three wood truck. Can smell diesel fumes in cab at idle.

LPOP(Low pressure oil pump) worn out too. Long crank, no oil pressure feeding the hpop which is what operates the injectors. Oil pressure registers on the dash after 3-4 long cranks

Turbo pedestal/exauhst brake leaking oil. Garrett offers a rebuild kit

254,000 miles.

Big job, via the mobile mechanic set. Im getting too fkn old for cold rusty metal yoga, on an interior Alaska October. May would be better month, before mosquito season starts. Oh well, I procrastinate mechanic work sometimes, till it builds up into a giant last minute job. 😄

Well Im in there, might as well replace harmonic balancer, belt tensioner, idler pulleys, serpentine belt, radiator hoses, coolant, harmonic balancer bolt.

The good old 7tree. You dont need oil pressure on the gauge to fire up a 7.3. There's a hpop reservoir that has oil in it from when it was shut off, so there's always oil to the hpop.

Id be interested to know what the icp reading while cranking is. The computer requires 500 psi or more of rail pressure from the hpop before it will command the injectors to fire. A weak hpop will cause hard starts. As do glow plugs are a bad glow plug relay.

Im still working on a way to convert the 7.3 into common rail. 😆

Low pressure oil pumps actually do get worn enough where the hpop reservoir will drain back down. U can also here a smidgen of turbo bearing chirp till the oil pressure builds. The melling high volume oil pump is a good replacement. More oil pressure at start up and at idle.

Back in 2021 I did:
run new glow plugs, upgraded to a white Rodgers glow plug relay, new under-valve cover harnesses

rebuilt the turbo with a kc turbos balanced assembly and banks big head wastegate.

Pulled hpop and completely resealed it, new injection pressure valve and icp sensor, ran new high pressure oil lines and fittings.

Rebuilt the entire fuel bowl, seals and fuel pressure spring.

7.3 powerstroke: death by a million crusty o-rings. Yes they really are 24 yr old o-rings and they are everywhere. 😄

It's a bummer this guy passed away, he was a big help diagnosing things:

If the reservoir leaks back, it definitely will not start till it gets more oil. 👍
My lpop stopped pumping due to me installing it in backwards. Chewed the front cover up at the same time. 😆

I was not aware Bill passed away. 😕

My 7.3 currently has two HPOPs, 300/200 injectors, holset HX55 turbo, and supporting mods. Tuning by me.
That has got to be a good time!

I have 180/30's, 63/68 KC turbo, and a stage 2 CNC Fab hpop in my 03 dually. I would have gone bigger if I had forged rods in my motor. I have done the Melling low pressure oil pump as well as endless other mods and upgrades. The death by a million o-rings is real. These things seem to be on a relentless mission to show daylight to every fluid within them. I never had to keep a bar of Lava soap in my shower until I owned a 7.3.
