I have a case and a 10mm crank and jug here with a Meteor (new piston) here. I just need to get after it. I see the crank is much smaller than the 046 it seems. Maybe that is why they spin up so fast as many people say?

I have a 044 thought was a 10 turns out it was early 12 with the angled jug.Saw has heated handle and carb was told it has the bigger (heavier) flywheel because of this.I was also told its the best of both worlds.

If an 044 10mm and a 12mm were both ported, I'm guessing using the same porting numbers, would they be equal in HP or cutting speed? I've always read the 10mm was faster than the 12mm in stock form.
An old Logger I know said the early 044's were his favorite of all the saws he's used in over 40 years of Logging.

Guessing here a bit, but I'd say that a 10mm would probably be better suited to the quickness of a short bar. And a 12mm with the bigger crank would probably be better suited to a long bar. But I've got a 440 in the garage with what appears to have the same crank as a 10mm saw, but it uses a 12mm pin
