Haven’t tried the x cut. I’d love to but I’ve got pretty good stick of chain. And I run my chains to the absolute end
Soon as I unpack this fkn rats nest of grubby saws from my yukon river cutting/milling trip, gonna run a fresh loop of xcut against a clapped out loop of EXL. Will try it on a 620pw and a cs 8000 I ported.

There was an older version lewis and a capstan on site. Both used for launching/retrieving fish wheels into the yukon for the now-defunct fall chum salmon run. Could've just left mine at home.

They had an old 066 mag for winching. Toe plate busted off the saw. Just like my 660 mag, toe plate had no reinforcement in the plastic.

Speaking of changes to chain companies, did Stihl quit making a bunch of square ground and .404?

The EXL chain is cutting better than brand new out of the box the C83.

The xcut was all zippey zippey in softwood, but a large piece of semi-seasoned Alaskan birch, the kerf is too thin and it's pinching out in its own chips, mid-cut.

This c83 is on an 81 cc ported saw! I then grab the 620pw with EXL, and can cut right into the existing c83 kerf and it just mows through.

I'll try hand filing that dumb a s s beak off the tooth and maybe it will pull better, I dunno.

Right now, the EXL is the better, "all around chain".

U can see the kerf difference. EXL on left:

Went over the teeth with a round file, 4 strokes off the rakers wirh a flat file. Cutting much better now. Sharpens much easier than EXL. Probably one of the easiest chains I've ever sharpened. That C83 beak tooth bllsht is overrated.

I love Oregon LGX & EXL, but I also really like Husqvarna X-Cut.

Bar fully buried in the trunk section, stock 56cc Dolmar PS-550, round ground X-Cut chain, fresh birch - it cut great.

The work hardened cutters showed up last year sometime, (EXL) I recently purchased a loop of 72EXL084g and it had significantly less work hardened cutters. I was able to “file underneath” it and not have to use a stone like the 3 new chains I purchased last summer. I don’t know if us contacting Oregon or *b-wording about it on the web, but something is getting better. I think there were 3 hardened cutters on this newest loop and like 10-20 on other loops last year.

Current Oregon ownership is a conglomerate that looks for everyway possible to max return on investment. Their other claim to fame is buying a co loading up with debt after sucking it dry and then dumping it on the market. To that end likely chain made in chi-com territory. They also own Carlton and that chain has been slipping a bit as well. Stilh chain, customer came in with a bunch of loops that he had recently gotten at about 1/2 normal Stilh price, Green color of pre set was different than before. He has not *b-worded about them yet , maybe just a new batch of paint, question is new ancient stock or chi- com supply, or perhaps just an exceptional good deal ? couldn't tell on the grinder. chi-com stuff can be very good or worthless, all depends on your quality control

My latest STIHL chain out of the box has been perfect--OEM sharpening, raker height, consistency, hardness, over-all quality, the works.

Out of the box Oregon has been all over the place on hardness, sharpening, and raker height. A few teeth are super-soft and have trouble taking an edge, more often they're super-hard. Oregon files are currently at "Quality Chinese level" in my opinion (I usually use Pferd).

The Husky X-Cut @Gentleman sent has a pretty good hook, by eye the quality looks great, insanely huge chips with no extra load on the saw; haven't gotten it on the bench yet to mic it up but am thinking of switching from Oregon chain to X-Cut based on looks and performance.

I only hand-file thanks to @Philbert, and with excellent results.

Could it be counterfeit STIHL chain?

Philbert
that's what he was asking me. i can't really tell. seemed to grind about the same. it is his people using the chains - no *b-wording yet. this a landscape service. sells a lot of firewood this time of year. he bought a processor last fall. not sure if that is running these or not.
