I left work early to cut some firewood. I normally just cut and let the landowner know where the piles are at. I'm lucky to see them on the property maybe once a year. While driving on a trail I saw the landowners nephew splitting and collecting some wood that I cut.

I did end up dropping and blocking up two dead oak wilt trees. I used my XS 400c and my Tree Monkey 400c. The brush and thorns were horrible! It took me about 5 minutes just to hack a trail to get to the trees. I blocked everything at 26" for a owb.

Bought 2 loads of logs from a different logger for a change, pretty varied mix of stuff but still ash heavy and some basswood which I’m not keen on.
Used my daily drivers a ported 460 and 461

I got a little this morning. I got nine dead standing oak trees dropped and blocked up. It was pretty easy, not much limb work. It went very fast. I've been cutting on this property for 6 years. The amount of rocks out here is unreal! Look at the last picture. I wiped some of the moss off the rock. I rock so many chains ever year.I used my XS 400c, Tree Monkey 400c and my scarr 4350. I blocked everything at 26" for a owb.

Committed to removing some honey locust after a storm 6 weeks ago, backyard. May just try to get my first load tomorrow. Be giving the "Super Handy" cordless wheelbarrow a workout.

Great to see that you stopped back in.

I'm going to have to get to more of the mid-west GTG's to meet more of this group in person. And maybe one in TN to meet the monkey and company.

I got a little this morning. I left work early and decided to get a few trees before going to my cabin. I have mentioned about all the rocks that I deal with. The second tree I had rocks under the tree on two cuts. I used my newest scarr 572XP and my newest scarr 550xpg and blocked everything at 26" for a owb.

Been bringing stuff up to the stove pad slowly all summer and it’s finally getting fullish. It was 36f last night and the first cool night of fall always puts me in firewood mode but I’m ahead of the game for once this year !

That looks like close to a three year supply for me. Enjoy the heat from it.

I sure like the day we switch from LP to wood each fall !! We’ll burn LP until the daily highs are under 40f to make sure the LP systems work and then the stove doesn’t turn into a creosote factory when it’s warm out.

I go through around a cord a week when it’s below 15f and around 22-25 a year. That pile will hopefully last until late February and I can bring stuff up as needed to end up with an empty pad each summer. We have around 3yrs of wood in hand at this point and the pipe is growing as we’re blessed to have friends and family that have been dropping stuff off so they don’t have to pay to get rid of it.

Due to high winds at my cabin I was unable to go musky fishing this afternoon. However, I was able to stack one 16 ft row of firewood.

Do you heat just the house with the wood boiler?
House, farm shop and well house. Around 10,000sq/ft total. It gets a workout when it’s -25f and windy and runs for around 15 minutes and idles for 15 minutes and repeats. It’ll eat 1-1/2 cord a week when it’s that chilly. I am feeding it fenceline junk like box elder, poplar, cedar and elm so it’d be a lot less with some good hardwoods.

Heating a lot of space/ multiple buildings is the only way they make sense to me.
If you get the wood for free then who cares if it’s not grade A stuff
Family/friends drop off enough to make a difference but we’ll cut the bulk of it on the farm every year. It seemed like a shame to pile it up to let it rot so I started cutting it up and burning it. It’s also motivation to get out and be active in the winter.
