This looks to me like a cylinder that was well worn before it was ever ported, not a result of the porting. Unless the machining is grossly out of square, I'm going to be slow to jump on the band wagon on this cylinder. Does that make sense? No, I don't use bridge and finger ports, but they look OK from here. But like I said, I've never used them before. How much support is needed after the grinding? I really don't know.

Did you see the rubbing on the piston wings ?

I probably shouldn't even comment on bridge and finger ports because I've never used them. However, it's impossible to use them without a significant loss of support, particularly with finger ports.

I imagine it was worn...I purchased the saw from a faller that used this saw for quite a few years as his backup saw. He said he was done with falling, and figured it was time to get rid of his backup. It was very dirty...spent a fair amount of time trying to get it cleaned up, put a new impulse/ fuel lines in it..ran great..never did pull the jug to take a peek though.

How come it took this long for owners of this guy's saws to check them themselves or have them checked by someone else?

Blind trust in the builders skills, fear of finding out the port job is/was not as promised/advertised?

I am no builder/porter, and I don't own any ported saws - but I am nearly shocked what passes as a port job in this guy's builds.
I also wonder - do his saws really run better than stock ones before they come to a sudden screeching halt or are they all placebo?

No disrespect intended!
I am just wondering as I follow these threads.

My sincere apologies if anyone feels my post to be offensive!

People don't speak out for several reasons. Sometimes they're embarrassed that they got taken advantage of and feel that it's somehow their fault because they should have known better. Sometimes they just don't want any more hassles and just want to be past it. Sometimes they're afraid that the supporters of the porter will come to his defense and dismiss their issues because "he's a good guy".

If JMS was nicer to people he'd still have supporters, here. People will ignore an enormous amount of *B-S.... if they think you're being nice to them.

No offense taken at all. To begin with, I had no reason to take it apart to check it. Most everyone, at the time, didn't think there were any problems. He was building strong saws!!
The only reason I decided to tear into it, was all the problems arising, which is the reason for waiting this long.
It was purely blind trust. He was gaining a pretty good following..he did say it was going to be a high strung play saw that would be good for firewooding as well.

1) Jason sent some saws to our GTG's that ran extremely well.

2) I generally DON'T take a saw apart that has been ported. Don't think it is right to look for the builder's secrets, and generally if you did not have faith in the person you would not have sent your saw to them in the first place.

What Jason has done is just tragic!

No, I'm saying there should not be people like Jason in the world!

I have never had to pull my saws apart that were done by Randy, Dr Al, CFB or Bret! There is just no reason.

Im with you mike.

I don't think you should have to take a saw apart after you had it ported.

2 out of 3

064- Very Faint exhaust scoring has JMS etched into the crown Rings look good.
7900- like the day I sent it..... perfect
661.... Intake..... however I wanna blame the HD2 on that

Exhaust is fine

Probably will tear down all 3 soon

All run very strong and have no issues running

I've ran the hell out of these saws, more than 5 gallons each on these saws during my ownership after porting.

Don't wanna really stop using them, they all run good. I know some will say run till they blow and others will say send out.

Money is sort of tight lately. By all means I don't want a handout here!!! I guess I will just have to wait this out.

This kinda blows!!!!
