I've never thought of checking over a new ported saw. I can't imagine anyone hands over the money for a ported saw if they don't trust the builder.
Obviously, there are times when this trust is misplaced, but you just don't go into it thinking how you should check it for problems before you run it.

This guy built me another saw before this one, and it was a great saw for sure. I never checked any builder's port job on purpose, I had a look on Brad's, Carl's, Dan's an Jason's works because they sent me cylinders only, and they were fine. Never looked inside Randy's saw, all of them runs great.

I just removed the jug on a brand new ported saw from a well-know builder (I won't say his name but he don't post here).

I keeped the saw for later, it was my "jewel of the crown". I removed the cylinder to replace the intake boot with a better one, and I'm still shocked. The ports are just barely touched, irregular, rough, no bewel... Honestly, I'm lucky I found this before I tried the saw.

Just ordered a few carbide burrs for my dremel and will try to fix this crap, or I'll have it shipped to another builder to straightened this.

On the other hand, the muffler mod is the most beautiful I ever seen, I don't understand what happened.

My list of thrustful builders just lost a name.
I see You need a JMS 346XP NE or 562XP . . .

Sorry to hear about the let down of the saws builder, it just ain't right! :(

From what I've read You might want to get some diamond burrs if You'll try to fix the bevel and port finish Yourself.

I hope You'll get Your jewel the way she was supposed to be from the get go. :)

Ive only heard of about 3 builders on here that have been called out on quality of work .Youre right though as it would be nice to put faith in a porter that the job could be trusted without wondering before one runs the saw.

Actually, Jason told me he'll port any of my saws for free. I think I'll pass...

He seems to have tried throwing the line in hopes to hook and reel in European business?! o_O

He'd still have You pay for a new clutch and a bearing and a piston . . .

Lower your expectations.

The "Unicorn" is coming apart this winter.

I can hear his voice in my head repeating the excuses over and over again.

He may need a sub forum.

Please keep all of your JMS pistons. When we have enough, I'll weld them together and we will make a Christmas wreath from them.

That's a fantastic *f-wording idea, the wreath.

How come it took this long for owners of this guy's saws to check them themselves or have them checked by someone else?

Blind trust in the builders skills, fear of finding out the port job is/was not as promised/advertised?

I am no builder/porter, and I don't own any ported saws - but I am nearly shocked what passes as a port job in this guy's builds.
I also wonder - do his saws really run better than stock ones before they come to a sudden screeching halt or are they all placebo?

No disrespect intended!
I am just wondering as I follow these threads.

My sincere apologies if anyone feels my post to be offensive!

My work is seasonal and when I am working I don't get to touch a saw it's 2 or 3 months that I am working 60 plus hours a week along with a hour drive each way

I think people ASSUMED that the work was done, and done correctly. I personally would not take a saw apart that just came back from a porter. There has to be a mutual trust on both sides.
Then stuff like this happens, and one wonders.
I wouldn't have any worries at all having work done by the RESPECTABLE porters here. Their integrity shows through. We all know the porters who have the highest respect and integrity. [emoji106]

Unfortunately, sometimes even well known builders could disappoint you...

Yep. It's not that I don't trust one specific person. I just don't trust anyone, my life experiences have taught me being able to trust in people is difficult. I check everyone's work when someone else does work for me, it's not personal. J did a couple for me that were awesome, pulled em apart and they were beauty. Recently got a saw that was in the works for a while, am I gonna pull it apart? Yep.

I'll send it that way to get it checked out..I guess just for recearch sake, as I know it is just a paperweight now. The search will be on to find a good cylinder as a replacement.

Darn, another hard to find cylinder ruined by an over zealous hand with a grinder.

I hear you Captain. But that is when you gotta communicate back with him. Let him know your issues and give him a chance to correct it.

You're absolutely right, but this guy is hard to reach, communication is not his best skill. I think I will send the cylinder to someone else, maybe Brad in a few months. This saw is too nice to wear this *s-wordty cylinder.

I don't mind cleaning up some rough ports if you guys want to send the cylinders my way. I won't charge anything for my labor, I only ask that you pay for return shipping.
Shoot...I'd just drive it over to you..would give me an excuse to finally meet a member on here. Lol.
