There great machines. What other grinders did he have?
Thanks Phil. I already have a Tecomec, just thought if the Foley got rave reviews I'd consider picking it up. Parts availability would definitely have to be considered.Couple of threads on these on Arboristsite, Chainsaw Repair, and other forums - just do a Google search for "Foley 308 grinder" to see some other comments.
I am not sure what a fair price is, but ask yourself if you think that it offers any advantages over an Oregon / Tecomec style grinder, and if you think that you can get parts for it, if needed. They look like they take up a bit more space, and use less common wheels.
So if it works, and you like it, it could be a good deal. But compare it against your other options.

Me?
The grinding wheels would be used to support my 'No-Kill Chain Shelter'!
Bars are a separate specialty. If I had a 'Bar Shop' (don't have the room, even if I scored one) I would consider reconditioning bars. Helps to be able to weld, and to have access to a mill, to fully recondition bars. Note - some models of Barshop also had a hammer like tool for flattening bars / closing rails.

I wish that you had got it. I don't like them
The table, and they take up a lot of room for what they do.What don't you like about it?

Hey thanks!!!
Yes, they packaged this wheel very nicely....it came with the white dressing stick, and some directions, I will take a pic of the directions if I remember next time I in the garage....
I do remember it saying to flip the wheel every 20-30 chains to ensure equal wear(if you can call it wear), and to use the stick to clean the wheel eventually(if ever needed!!!)
Is the wheel you have from diamond wheel brand?????
He Thanks for the info, I will look later by I think it said after you noticed the whee not cutting as good.... which I have heard a lot of guys say they hardly ever(if ever) use them.....We use these wheels at work. The white stone is essentially a soap stone that's used to reopen the pores of the wheel. Depending on what your doing that frequency changes but I would guess that the mfg would recommend after every chain. That seems a little much due to material removal. I would say every 5 chains would still be plenty
That was a good comeback, maybe you will get his businessOk off topic for just a second!!
Wow got a funny story for you guys real fast...
Long story short I have been obsessively rebuilding saws lately(I just love it), and I was taking a ms250 to sell to a guy at local rural king.....I take a small piece of wood so he can try it out the saw (I just put a nice grind on the chain!!), the guy puts the end of the bar on the small piece and of course it chews right threw very fast..... sure enough the guy bounces the bar RIGHT into the pavement, and HARD.... I was dumbfounded, I kept my mouth shut as he already gave me my $225, and I just said "hey I grind chains too!!!".....
Hello I haven't been using one that long, but I believe you will really like it.... hopefully some of the pros that have ground 1000s of chains with the cbns will chime in....just ordered a CBN for my 511ax. opinions, suggestions?
Where did you get it from?just ordered a CBN for my 511ax. opinions, suggestions?
Diamond Wheel Inc.Where did you get it from?
That's were I got mine too..... you will like how the package it......there is a white square "dressing" stick in there too, be careful not to break/throw it out...Diamond Wheel Inc.
yes I did. I have ground 2 chains and it is definitely worth the investment.Well did you get the wheel yet..... if so what do you think about it....
Yes, I didn't really know how much I would like the wheel, until the first time I used it lol....i can see why guys love these that actually grind alot of chains....the wheel staying a constant shape is very nice.... i may add that I still use my 1/8 th wheel for .325 chain and lo-pro....yes I did. I have ground 2 chains and it is definitely worth the investment.
