That's how my chains start out their life too..
After a half dozen cords of wood, and maybe five or six sharpenings, they can work back to their sweet spot.

Might be running against the guy I sent chains to. He lives in birch tree.
Indeed...
He's got the chain taken care of..
I wonder what he's going to use for a saw?

Here is a chain that I took from the garbage pile . . . for an every day kinda work chain for the woods you really don't have to do anything real fancy to get a good fast cut.
People throw out and waste a lot of usable chain; I have rescued quite a few loops. A grinder is a good way to bring it back to shape. If you really prefer a filed edge, give it a few licks after shaping it with the grinder.

I agree..
Hell, they don't cut their best till they get back close to the rivet.
When I finally break off 3 or 4 teeth, they go in the junk bin.

Made a few of em like that..
Still cut ok?
The one day I ran it, it cut awesome.
It's wrapped back up safely in your t-shirt for the next time !

I have some 10" dia cottonwood logs in the backyard that were cut in June. Think it's safe to cut wif dat chain with no ill effects?

Yup..
Ain't no fun if you can't use it!
Plus, there's at least 2 or 3 touch ups left in it.
