I'll have to dig it out 2morrow Terry. What was funny is that the unique line that goes up the inside of the cutter with square chain cannot meet at a point due to the nature of semi but it was there. The top plate & side plate resembled square just not where they meet. I'll post a pic in the morn. You wouldn't have a pic of it would you? Was the side plate closer to 45 degrees rather than 60 degrees which you would find on a top plate angle of 30 degrees?
You may consider a piece of paper to test the sharpness with ,over your finger .I used what I have learnt here and took to that Stihl chain I linked a picture of a few pages back.
Leveled out the raker front edge to help push chips, cleaned up the gullet and sharpened the factory grind with a 13/64th file.
Its now much sharper than out of the box.
I bumped it with my hand lightly, just brushed over it reaching over the bar for a flat file and it slit me open like a razor.

What dont you like Matt? Big difference Im seeing is the little height difference between the nose and tail. That cutter is a horrible design..
But should work on hard stuff..
Low tooth.....no room for chip ejectionWhat dont you like Matt? Big difference Im seeing is the little height difference between the nose and tail.
Looks like my workchain angles on the cutter ,should work good on a smaller saw
I hate short cutters. Though in hard wood, you can get away with a shorter cutter. But being .404, I would assume it would be used on a big powerhead in larger fresher wood, so why would they want to hamstring themselves right out the gate? Maybe for sheer durability. What dont you like Matt? Big difference Im seeing is the little height difference between the nose and tail.
That chain fly's on the 346. Rakers about .015. Has been rather durable also.Looks like my workchain angles on the cutter ,should work good on a smaller saw
Any problems with too much drag thinning the raker tips ?That chain fly's on the 346. Rakers about .015. Has been rather durable also.
How many man hours you think to do a chain like that ?3/8 play chainView attachment 33013
