I would think the 2159 would be a better all around saw, 2156 would be better for racing in smaller wood. Jmo

Have to get everything fitted together first. Then check the timing.

Then report back.

I'd probably get both put together with no port changes and see how they run. Then adjust from that baseline.

I have limited experience with that model, but I do remember that the decomp Mahle had better numbers than the nondecomp for me on a regular 266-272 build. I believe I took 20 from the band and wound up with 121 uppers in the decomp. On the non, I had to raise them up, they were in the 125 zone. I can check my numbers and report back if you’d like.

Agree with Joe. If possible, run stock and see what it lacks.

If this is for milling, I don’t get the entire build. No disrespect meant, I’m enjoying what your doing and sharing. It’s just that. In general, weight and size don’t matter much with milling. One wants a balanced saw with low compression and good cooling. Too much comp, and too much heat. The bigger the case the better. Fill cylinder with more charge so dynamic compression stays desirable. Keep static comp low to minimize heat buildup.

Hope you get what I mean. For a fun saw, I’m all in for this.

Yes,
This is the direction I'm in now.
I have no tooling to do port work, besides a pencil grinder.

I’m on Long Island NY. Not too far.

I’ve got a 266 case, same as 272.

If you need the uppers played with, say the word and ship it down.

As for machine work, looks like you’re all set.

Thanks Al,
No ones going to offend Me.
I joined to learn from others & appreciate everyone's input, thoughts & theory.

No this is not for milling.
Just a saw for felling & bucking.
I just enjoy the nimbleness of a 2156/2159 over my bigger saws.
Especially with a messed up right shoulder.

My comment about the high transfers was just what I gathered while building my hybrid. That thing had crazy pull with a normal ex low bd and high transfers. Lazy... man was it lazy. But it would pull and pull.

Reminded me of an old reed valve saw.

Once I dropped the jug and lowered the transfers if gained the snap.

Not sure how his short stroke will effect this.

Mistook what you said Joe.

High Number = Low Physical Transfers

Sounds like we are taking the same. When i just refer to "raising the transfers", I'm saying raising them towards the squishband/Decreasing number.

Easily confused. Like talking about gear sets high and low gears.

You might like an 044/46 hybrid. Pretty compact and run well. I did one with low compression and a decomp valve and it’s an easy starter.

A member here has an o36/044 hybrid in the works that will likely debut at the CT GTG.

I seen your build & followed along.
Really nice job putting that one together.
Seeing what you & others have built, is what inspired me to join OPE.
I'm addicted to Redheads however.

I've been trying to get this built in a timely matter before I'm laid up for a couple of months.
But I've also have had so much more to do with getting ready for a surgery that I've put off for nearly ten years, do to finances.
But I no longer have a choice.
I have to commemorate all of you in what you've done to help Jeremy & his Family.
