FOP,
Just curious, why Jet-A and not diesel or #2 kerosene . (Heck the shop guys used varsol more then anything else)
Diesel is too dirty/oily. Varsol and mineral spirits cost too much. Same with #2 kerosene, just not available at a good price around here. So long story short, Jet-A is the cheapest available suitable solvent for my needs. (it takes about 15 to 20 gallons to fill my 40 gallon parts washer). Plus I have a 20 gallon one at the hangar.

I mix AV gas and 100ll at 50/50 and my bikes and four wheeler like it fine. AV gas straight in small motors I'm not a fan of simply because it still has lead in it and I've seen pretty nasty buildup on 450 race bikes that were ran on the 100 ll. I have not seen the same issues in my cr250 though. Might have to try some straight AV gas in my saw just to see the results. AV gas is easily bought where I live. I run my turbo sled on it and haul 4 five gallon race jugs out to the pump and get them filled regularly. I do live next door to a very small airport also. And I know the people working there.

I run straight AV gas in saw and things I don't use much. If I'm going to be running something a lot I'll use pumped gas then switch back to AV gas for storage..... There's lots of times all I have mixed is AV gas and I haven't seen any problems with it.

I don't understand this. Avgas and 100LL are the same thing.

Maybe he meant. 80LL...but I ain't seen that around our area in years ?
80/87 pretty much disappeared in the 80's. At least that's about the last time I saw it. I used to encounter the 100/130 green avgas in Alaska and Africa. But even that is long gone. The blue 100LL is about the only aviation fuel readily available. They supposedly make an 82UL but I've never found any.

Mike,

Why do you want the lower octane fuel? Faster burn?

I'm using VP 91 octane, I think. Was $80 for 5 gallons for me. Has a distictive smell when burned for sure.

I'm a cheapskate and only use the VP to flush motors for storage.

Lower octane makes more powering these short stroke saws. I have VP fuel but I use it mostly for storage now. It was $78/5 gallons delivered for the SEF 94 octane stuff.

I've used the VP fuel in several 2 strokes that wouldn't fire on regular mixed gas, and they fire 1st pull on VP. Stuff seems to work....but if the carb needs rebuilt...it needs rebuilt. I don't think VP makes stretched out or hard diaphragms new again. lol Plus that stuff is spendy!

Sorry I meant I mix av gas 50/50 with 91 e free fuel @fearofpavement I have also blended AV gas with vp c15 I believe it was but never tried it in anything other than my sled. That stuff does seem so hold out well during storage tho I will agree. AV gas with klotz or castor oil is a magical smell as well
