Pretty much every laminated bar I've used has chipped somewhere on the edge (usually near the tip). Same with the cheapest all the way to Stihl bars, but I've never seen that much chipping. I've always wondered how it happens. I've only seen one or 2 really small chips, they tend to happen on the outer edge.

Twin jet, and all the good *s-word. To use it just take the throttle cam off a China 372 carb, flip the choke arm on the shaft, get a 372xt air filter adapter, 65mm long M4 screws, and a longer impulse line. Also you can press the main nozzle out and easily bore it to 3/4" (19mm).

They will sell saws to the us market now
When i asked last year they wouldn't.
I might try to get one of these 272 clones.

I would hazard to say, ignore them like they have been and every other regulation/standard that we have in this country. They put dangerous chemicals in our products and poisons in our foods, I can't imagine them being the least little bit worried about it or anything else for that matter. Sorry for the dick attitude about it, just how it seems to be to me.

That's true for shipping direct from China to the end user. But a US distribution point, whether owned by them or someone else, becomes an "importer". And if they are bringing them in and re-selling non compliant saws, they are in for some astronomical fines. Same applies to some guys who are buying those 10 packs and calling themselves saw dealers. A few years ago, MTD brought in a bunch of saws they thought were compliant. Fine was over a million.

Now isn't this interesting. These guys are right across the Hudson River from me in Dutchess County, less than an hour away. Looks like they have their act together on the rest of the stuff they do. I wouldn't even have to pay shipping on the saw. LOL

I'll give them a call and see what's up with those saws.

The threaded one on the left, I don't even know at that does, The high needle is fed by a small hole in the casting, maybe it goes straight to the high nozzle. One of the brass jets feeds the L needle and the other just dumps into the venturi.

From your description, the threaded one is likely in parallel with the high speed needle (it helps put the needle at about 1.5 turns out)

"One of the brass jets feeds the L needle" - that would be the 'limiter' jet for the low speed circuit. Those are often made bigger to increase the flow in the low speed circuit and to pick up more low-end torque.

"the other just dumps into the venturi" - that is an auxilliary jet. Again, those are often made bigger to fatten up the low speed circuit. They will also dump a shot of fuel as the throttle plate opens, so they can be used to mod the throttle response.

I always figured they sold powerhead only to avoid the EPA. It's a replacement part. Saw blows up, unbolt the bar and bolt up a replacement powerhead.

I did call the hotasswood guys. At first I kind of made him uncomfortable with too many questions, but it settled down and he's a good dude. They are not getting involved with the Craft Top saws. They already bring in and sell the farmertec stuff. They love the 660 clones. Must be buying the 10 packs. But after mark up, guys here are better off ordering their own obviously. Plus, they are Stihl guys and only bring in Stihl clones, cause that's all they ever ran. Had some fun with that cause I'm a Husky/Jonsered only guy.

An assembled PHO, is not a replacement part, it is a complete engine. That logic would hold for the kit saws though. And they kind of list them that way, right?

Farmertec has it's own fb group.
Like forums as ope as firewood horders etc.
Are Online.

Husky only stihl only
And all welcome groups too.
The stihl guy's are the most sensitive
They bruise easy.

All I know is that in my area 30+ year old beat to crap Stihl saws still command absurd prices.

It's mind boggling that an old, heavy, worn out saw that you can no longer get parts for is still sold as a "premium" product.

Once upon a time, the internet discussions were all on IRC and bulletin boards. It was like that for many years, but then they migrated to forums. There are still some older folks who use IRC (and hackers), but you need an additional program to access them, and a subscription service to access the bulletin boards.
Forums worked for me for a long time, but now I see everything moving to Facebook. It’s just the migration of the crowd.

But Facebook sucks as a replacement to forums. There's no lasting information. Like if I want to learn about weird top end swaps for ms660s I can Google that and find the thread of the guy that put a 394 to end on. If that was posted to Facebook it wouldn't have come up in any search and I'd have had to ask on the Facebook page about it. Then some guy who's been there forever would complain that someone asks the same question every week and that I should Google it.

They're totally different saws. The 5800 is like at least 2 pounds lighter but also slower than a 372 in cut. It could be your only saw, it does cut trees well and if you're just doing cleanup and firewood your probably not going to notice a difference at the end of the day, the lighter weight makes up for the slower cutting. I have both I'll drop a tree with the 372 but immediately switch to my 5200 for everything under 8" on the tree, then switch back to the 372 for the big stuff. But honestly that's just for fun I could do it all with the 5200.
