What about putting the vanes in the other direction? Looks like what's shown in the title picture would draw flow away from the transfers. I'll watch and see how it actually turned out.

You’re well into the world of trial and error. Somebody needs to hack up a bunch of cranks and send them to Joe. A cheap and common clamshell would be a good candidate for experimentation.

That Echo turbo crank might be good for some Stihl and Husqy saws that have the lower transfers open under the exhaust port.
