I just got back from Brazil a few days ago and in the three times that I've been there in the last two years, I've never seen any brand of chainsaw but Stihl. There's likely other brands as it's a big place. Just speaking of the areas I've been. Never saw any of the blue Stihl knockoffs.

Duly noted, I have seen that recommended and plan to check squish and port beveling. :)
I just bought a carb for my ATC 200 ES three wheeler Big Red. It's coming from China 14 dolla devivered.
Will let you know how it works.

I've got a 365 clone that is labeled "Gasoline Chainsaw HH365" - not likely to be mistaken for a real Husquvarna. They were selling here for A$230 some years ago, a real 365 was something like A$1,600+. I haven't seen them advertised for a few years. If I was a pro wood cutter, no way would I rely upon such a saw for my daily bread. However, as a firewood hack, it works just fine.

It is now a ported 77cc engine, muffler mod and modded Zama. Everyone that tries it is impressed with the power and it has been a reliable bucking saw. It needed some work to get it set up properly, somebody who knew nothing about saws would have had problems with it (tank valve, wrist pin bearing, clutch spring).

I'd get another one if I ever blow this thing up. Heck, I could blow up 3 of them and still be ahead. I'd prefer to have a genuine Husky, but for the amount of work it does I couldn't justify it.

In most cases the brass (jets and emulsion tube) from your OEM Keihin carb can and SHOULD be swapped into the China carb. If you do that, it should work pretty good.

Do you mean the screw on cap with the brass jet and the throttle body slide with spring?
I now have it set on the leanest setting with the clip on the brass needle. I'm at 1000'.
Good to know you have knowledge of these machines, I may be asking you more questions if thats ok.
I stripped down two 200ES and built one out of the best parts. This one will be a workhorse.image.jpg

Great little workhorses they are. I have an '84 200es Big Red myself in about 95% condition.

As to the carb, no you don't want to swap the throttle slide. That should work although if you find it difficult to dial in your midrange with the clip position on the slide needle, you may want to try and swap in your OEM needle only if it is compatible with the Chinese slide. Hard to say if they got the needle profile and taper correct or not.

The brass I was referring to are the main jet and its emulsion tube that it screws into, the pilot jet, and idle mixture screw.

And no problem if you need more advice. Anything I can do to help keep and old ATC alive is my pleasure! I have 8 of the darned things myself.. :)

K, thanks, I'll do that and let you know how it went when I do the swap.
The bike pictured had a bent rear axle, but lucky it was on the exit side, so was an easy swap.
Cant for the life of me remove or figure out how to remove front axle as I wanted to swap tires.
I ended up using some slime to fix the flat.
The Clymer manual doesn't give the best tech info in some cases.
As a general procedure, do I need a special tool to adjust the ex & in valve clearance which appears to be .0003 for each valve?
Thanks,
John

.003" is typical for most old Hondas. No special tools required, just a set of feeler gauges and the know-how

Under the timing cap I couldn't find the 'T' witness mark that indicates TDC.
Also I have some oil leaking into the starter cover. Is this an easy fix?
Thanks for your help.
Sorry about the derail.

I am not likely to endorse a clone over an OEM saw. But I was chatting with a local A.S. member (not on this site), and he said that he wanted to show me something in the back of his truck. Had a MS660 clone, in STIHL colors, that he said he paid $250 - $300 for, shipped. Looked like the real deal, except for labels. Mounted a genuine (?) STIHL bar and chain on it. Said he was pretty happy with it for that price. I encouraged him to join here and to post his comments and experiences.

But, as long as it is 'OEM', right?
"Attention, please!! The Chain saw is OEM product from our factory Based in China, not original

, please double check this before your payment.
'

Some nice products also, for those left handed users . . . .

Yep, I guess it would be Original Equipment from the Manufacturer (in China) - LOL!

Crikey, the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if eventually some saw companies have the entire saw built in China and then re-badge it. Chains, bars, carbs, etc........................ complete saw.

I just checked the Stihl site in Oz to see what a new 661 would cost - A$2,349 and that's with a $150 cash back.

http://www.stihl.com.au/STIHL-Products/Chainsaws/Professional-Chainsaws/22355-1573/MS-661-C-M.aspx

You could burn up 9 of the Chinese saws and still be ahead.
